The Boxtrolls, stop-motion animation.
"The Box Monster" is a stop-motion animation produced by LAIKA in 2014. I sincerely hope that the art form of stop-motion animation will never die out in the commercial era of the fast era.
"It's not the cheese, the hat, the box that makes you, it's you who makes you." The qualification to taste cheese, the hat that represents unlimited authority, including the box that binds you, doesn't make you. Fame, status, and class may bring you the halo of the upper class, but what really makes people shine like stars and exude warmth is precisely those things that cannot be deprived of themselves, those beautiful, kind, warm and brave qualities.
A never-ending stop-motion animation set in a Victorian cheese town. Residents here are obsessed with smelly cheese, a symbol of supreme power. And down here, there lives a group of monsters that politicians agitators describe as monsters that crawl out of the ground at night to eat cheese and steal the children of the residents. In fact, these box monsters are cute and kind, they created a wonderful underground world underground, and they also adopted a human boy.
The box monsters live in the underground world that fulfills all my imaginations of the Victorian mechanical age, smashed lightbulbs for drums, saws for violins, mechanical clocks, teleportation ladders, seesaws, and other scraps of scrap metal. Weird gadgets made of iron.
But the real heart-warming aspect of this story is not only in the story itself, but also in the silent efforts of the entire team behind the production of the entire story. What I have to mention here is LAIKA company, this is the third stop motion animation produced by LAIKA company. When you hear about stop motion, some people may not know it very well. Only by understanding its production process can you truly understand the charm of stop motion animation and be in awe of the staff who make stop motion animation.
So-called stop-motion animation is very time-consuming and labor-intensive, and producing a minute or two of footage can often take the entire production team a week or more. Freeze motion usually requires the use of clay puppets, puppets or mixed materials to simulate real scenes and characters, and then shoot and edit the scenes one by one so that they can be displayed continuously. An extremely traditional and ancient form of animation (as shown below) . Because this form of animation is time-consuming and labor-intensive, it is not as efficient as 3D animation and meets modern business needs, so few people are willing to do stop-motion animation now.
But there are always some sentimental people who are willing to take the time to do such meaningful things. For example, LAIKA company has been obsessed with taking a long time to make such a small sentimental animated film. I don't know why they have so much time to do these things, as the movie tidbits say, but just like some people prefer to accumulate postage, it's not so much a job as it is a hobby. A simple and happy hobby.
