I saw this movie in Turkey. Because the film is in French, and the subtitles are in local language, because the language is not refined, I basically have a little understanding of the content of the lines. Especially in the beginning, when there are a lot of dialogues in fixed shots, the rhythm of the movie is quite slow, and I don’t know what the actors are talking about. , once the camera started to move and enrich with the actors, I gradually felt the charm of this movie.
"Climax" is about a snowy winter day, a group of dancers gathered in a big house isolated from the world to dance and party together, because someone secretly put psychedelic drugs in the wine, causing the collective The story of taking drugs (including a child), some people are crazy, some hurt each other, and finally even indirectly or directly lead to the death of others.
Based on my understanding of the film (which of course is not necessarily correct), "Climax" is like a concentrated demonstration of the extreme madness and ugliness of human nature. Tyranny, selfishness, sexuality, jealousy, madness... These dark sides are exposed on the dancers through the effect of psychedelics. There is a scene in which I was impressed, a man who was violently injured had a Nazi symbol painted in blood on his forehead. I think this is not only implying that the abusers are acting like Nazis, but maybe also ironic that the prevalence of fascism is just the result of a frantic mass drug addiction.
Those who are familiar with the director's work in this film should know that the director is very particular about the role of light. Basically, when everyone starts to "get up" later, the most light colors that appear in the lens are red and green. Red symbolizes blood, desire, and madness, and it is most appropriate to be used on a large scale in this film. As for green, I think that as a complementary color of red, it may be used to relieve the visual fatigue caused by a lot of red, and sometimes it also adds a strange atmosphere to the scene.
The film also uses a lot of oblique angle shots to set off people's inner unease, fear and imbalance when they go into depravity, when the collective drug addiction in the film reaches its climax (which includes not only the climax under the influence of drugs, but also the Sexual climax, masochistic climax, violent climax), everyone goes to depravity, and the camera is basically in an upside-down state.
And when the climax is over, what is left?
What is shown in the picture is the mess in the house after the arrival of the police, or, it can be said that the mess after the human nature is torn apart.
