Most of the women in Xing Ye's films are women with independent personalities and thinking abilities. That's how they thought ten years ago. Think about how backward we should be now.
Now watching this movie, I don't know why it feels a little ironic. Now there are some programs that promote Shaolin martial arts, 18 bronze figurines, etc. They dance with guns and sticks on the stage, but why not directly participate in various competitions? That propaganda effect is much better than TV. Maybe the rules don't allow it, or something else I don't understand, or maybe I understand the movie too much.
