"To All the Boys I've Loved Before" is based on the novel of the same name by Jenny Han, and the protagonist is a lovely girl named Lana.

Lana is a high school student. In her warm family, there is a mature and stable sister, a quirky sister, and a father who is a gynecologist. The three sisters and their father miss their mother who passed away and her Korean cooking skills; they get along well and have a close relationship, but the sister is about to go to college in Scotland, and the family is a little anxious about their future life.

Lana's relationship with her sister is a little twisted because she has a crush on her sister's boyfriend Josh. She buried this feeling deeply for many years. Her sister broke up with Josh before going to college, but even so, Lana still didn't dare to express her feelings, she was afraid that her sister would be hurt by it. Lana wrote unsent love letters to Josh and kept them secretly in a souvenir box. There were four other love letters hidden in the box, all of which she wrote to the boys she once had a crush on. There is a love letter that Lana wrote when she was seven years old, when she and a boy named Peter played a game of bottle-spinning kisses and fell in love with Peter because of it.

After the new semester started, these love letters were all sent out somehow. In fact, we can all guess the culprit, that is Lana's sister. Josh came to Lana with a love letter; Lana didn't dare to face Josh, so she approached and kissed Peter; it was the only way she could think of to stop Josh from questioning herself. Peter also received a love letter, and although he was a little surprised by the sudden kiss, after finding out what happened, he saw an opportunity to make his ex-girlfriend jealous.

Lana and Peter start a fake romance and get more time together because of it. Over time, the two naturally developed true feelings for each other.

Afterwards, despite the misunderstandings, the state of gentle romance and hilarity continued until the end of the film. Perhaps the most interesting thing about such a film is how the creators maintain a very delicate emotional tension under the loose plot structure, making us feel the loveliness of the story.

Lana is a true sweetheart, exuding quiet tenderness and playful humor. She is shy, but not neurotic. She's smart, and doesn't get bothered by that smartness. Teenage girls like this are rare on the screen. From her acting in love at the beginning to finally accepting her true feelings, she has always been gentle and restrained; watching her psychological change also gives us a mild sense of pleasure.

Lana's half-Korean ancestry adds some depth to her character, but it's never been a hindrance in a relationship. The death of their mother has infused the natural and comfortable relationship between the three sisters and their father with grief, while also bringing them closer together.

Whether it's negotiating a fake romance deal, talking about their favorite movies, or exchanging painful hearts, there's a lighthearted tune that beats between Peter and Lana.

Lana sends Peter to see Sixteen Candles, a 34-year-old film, to figure out her romantic philosophy. It is conceivable that some adolescent girls will also go to this movie to watch, and then let their favorite boys learn it.
