Two hundred years are not out of date

Some movies, born in the 1950s, are a long time ago; some movies, staying on black and white screens, seem outdated. However, the light of democracy, freedom, rationality, and humanity emanating from these films makes them detached from technology and from perception. These films, I dare say, will not be out of date for at least two hundred years.

The two films that were also born in 1957, "Twelve Angry Men" and "The Witness for the Prosecution", are such classic films in my mind.

In addition to the immortality of the core of the film, the script is exquisite, the director's storytelling, and the actors' acting skills are completely online, everything is almost impeccable. With the popularity of movies, today's moviegoers have more and more sophisticated tastes (like me haha), but these two movies are not only great spiritual cores, their tight plots, suspense, and fast rhythm will make your blood spurt. Sheet. Plus, the American rationality or British humour that runs through it is absolutely icing on the cake. After all, no one likes a sleepy movie, no matter how great it may be.

However, if someone tells you about the plot once, no matter how wonderful it is the second time, if there is less suspense, there will be less excitement. So, shameful spoilers. Therefore, it is best not to look at the domestic version of "Twelve Citizens". For China, which does not have a jury system, how to do it is awkward. The same is a copy, "The Labyrinth of the Heart" just turned over the divine editing in Nolan's "Memento", and the story is so grounded that it is called a good film.

This ending couldn't help but be praised. But I can't help but think, is this kind of a big reversal really good?

As a legal person, I can roughly guess the direction of the story, but the ending can be reversed four times in just five minutes, which is really amazing. In Billy Wilder's films, dialogue is always king, and the bullet-intensive lines drive ups and downs, making the process more shocking than the result. Although the heroine stands on the opposite side of justice, she is still a great woman~!

Witness for the Prosecution quotes

  • Christine Vole: It isn't even my letter paper! I write my letters on small, blue paper with my initials on it?

    Sir Wilfrid: Like these?

[pulling out a sheaf of letters on blue paper]

Christine Vole: Damn you! Damn you! Let me go! Let me get out of here!

  • Sir Wilfrid: Give me a match.

Leonard Vole: Sorry, I don't carry matches.

Sir Wilfrid: [to Brogan-Moore] I thought you said I'd like him.

Leonard Vole: But I do have a lighter.

Sir Wilfrid: You're quite right, I do like him.
