I have listened to the OST of "The Dreamers" on the old iPad for a long time. As soon as those old songs are played, I seem to be free from the worldly troubles and go to the dream room where the young literary and artistic youth do whatever they want. I only watched "Dreamer" once, and I can't bear to watch it a second time.
I have also read the novel of the same name, but I feel different. There are love and death that cannot be seen in the movie, and the dream has become a cruel reality. Bertolucci didn't want to make the end of the literary youths too miserable, so he even put the last subtitles backwards, as if to pay homage to the long-gone youth.
Similar to "Stealing Fragrance", Liv Tyler in it is like a delicate daisy, and her family-seeking road has finally become a broken journey, in the charming night, in the towering tree. Next, the girl lingered with the American guy she just met and completed her coming-of-age ceremony. I didn't expect Bertolucci to be so insightful in girls' hearts, maybe Italian men are all lovers.
Recently, the translation version of "The Sheltered Sky" has become a bestseller, which is really long overdue. The movie version may have been seen by most people, and the plot is about to be forgotten, only the theme music has been haunting in their hearts. A middle-class couple discovers their own hypocrisy and fragility during their travels, involuntarily being swallowed by greedy lust, and finally the husband dies of illness and the wife goes into self-imposed exile. It's an introspective film with a theme somewhat similar to Maugham's The Veil.
I don't like "Last Tango in Paris," especially after hearing about that dirty scandal. Bertolucci didn't stop Marlon Brando from hurting the heroine, but also ruined her life, which is really a stain on his life. I don't want to recall this movie.
I've watched "The Last Emperor" many times. I've seen the more than 200-minute TV version and the director's cut. I always feel that it is very awkward for Chinese people in ancient costumes to speak English dialogue, so I choose to watch the translated version. This tome is well worth a book, but today Bertolucci passed away, and the Dreamer came to my mind right away. The dreamer went to sleep in the west, leaving only the lost souls of the young men who continued to suffer in this black and white world.
