To be the master, you have to be very capable

Another Kurosawa Akira movie, very enjoyable to watch, and very exciting aftertaste.

The structure of the story is very simple. A ronin came to a chaotic town, dealt with two gangs of evil forces, and finally brought things right.

After watching the movie, I have a lot to think about. I'm a layman in terms of film skills, so let's talk about some points of view on the plot and characters.

The ronin played by Toshiro Mifune has actually become the master of the town's destiny. It is not so much that he is involved in it, it is better to say that he is playing the two sides in the palm of his hand, and it is not until Unosuke returns that he has some meaning to meet the opponent. Why can he do this? It's because he has extraordinary abilities, and his level far exceeds everyone in the town.

How strong is his swordsmanship? When saving the woman, the eight warriors in the room were instantly killed by him; in the final confrontation, he dragged the sick body, not afraid of the musket, and defeated ten with one attack, unscathed.

In addition to his superb martial arts, he also has keen observation and extraordinary wisdom. He pretended to be a refugee in Qingbei - overheard Xie Mo's plan to kill the donkey - provoked a decisive battle at noon - watched the teacher escape - saw the prostitute hidden Going to the warehouse - watching from the sidelines - observing the governor - judging from the peace talks - judging that there is a war - arresting and assassinating the two governors and sending them to Qingbingwei - pretending to take refuge in Chou Yin - saving the woman - destroying the wine cellar and causing the fire between the two sides...

The ronin Tsubaki Juro finally eliminated all the villains and dominated the fate of the town. This story tells us that if you want to be the master, you must have extraordinary ability, be smart and be able to fight. Ordinary people don't even need to be bad people.

  • Hansuke: Samurai, wanna make some dough as a bodyguard? The going rate has hit the roof. My commission's one ryo. Which side will you take? Seibei Manome runs a brothel. All the women you want. But he's going downhill. I'd bet on Ushitora Shinden. The inn at the corner. That's his place. Tell him Constable Hansuke sent you. I'd take you myself, but I'm the law around here. Don't forget, now. I get one ryo.

  • Gonji - Tavern Keeper: There he goes again! The casket maker. Only guy in town making any money. Can't make coffins fast enough. It's best not to have any gamblers at all. One boss to a town we can tolerate, but two is a disaster. Only the casket maker profits from that. Knock it off, you bastard!
