After such a long and endless wait, it is difficult to objectively evaluate this film. The only thing I can say is that it's one of the few movies in recent years that I've been looking forward to seeing and still feel that the wait is worth the wait. Rooney Jr's acting gets you into Therese the whole way. And the most heartbreaking scene is when Carol negotiates custody with her ex-husband.

Such a delicate and delicate female emotional film! There are only two retro girls with peerless amorous feelings in the shrewd pattern. Love is full of charm! Concise and profound! Beautiful and sad! Melancholy but also intoxicated! [Originally came for the Queen, but was stunned by Rooney! Oscar has no taste, bah!

Carol quotes

  • Therese Belivet: Have you ever been in love with a boy?

    Richard Semco: No.

Therese Belivet: But you've heard of it.

Richard Semco: Of course. I mean, have I heard of people like that? Sure.

Therese Belivet: I don't mean people like that. I just mean two people who fall in love with each other. Say, a boy and a boy. Out of the blue.

Richard Semco: I don't know anyone like that. But I'll tell you this: there's always some reason for it, in the background.

Therese Belivet: So you don't think it could just... happen to somebody. To anybody.

Richard Semco: No. I don't. What are you saying? Are you in love with a girl?

    Therese Belivet: No.

  • Therese Belivet: What town is this again?

[the morning after they first made love]

    Carol Aird: This? Waterloo.

    [laughs]

    Carol Aird: Isn't that awful?
