1. Art: Cyberpunk style, the art is given 9/10 points, as if seeing the burning funds. The cool colors and the messy urban layout are beautiful, but it will get a little tired after watching it for a long time... It is a work with high artistic style but not very friendly.
2. Story and rhythm: The story is generally okay, although the entry point is a bit small, but it is quite satisfactory. However, the narrative rhythm is a mess, and the editing is so fragmented that it can easily create obstacles for the audience to understand.
3. Character design: Character design is the highlight. The setting and performance of the male lead is great.
4. Theme: You can see some topics that the original book attempts to discuss: the by-products of longevity, and the gods created by the gap between the rich and the poor.
I have thought about these two questions before, and I have a good feeling after reading them:
1. Longevity. It probably started from "The End of Eternity". I gradually felt that immortality seemed too comfortable, and it was not a good thing for a species. It's not what this film says that it will cause the gap between the rich and the poor, but because things that are too comfortable will make people lazy. It feels like the entire species is going to stagnate because of laziness. Humanity probably still needs war, disease, poverty, and suffering. Although they are all negative energy, they are actually needed. Destruction is a necessary act to stay alive.
2. God and Satan. When I watched Milton's "Paradise Lost" before, I could probably understand that the reason for Satan's betrayal was "complete freedom" and the rebellion represented by this freedom. But I have never quite understood God’s mentality. I always feel that this kind of betrayal and being betrayed is not so ugly and extreme. After watching "Carbon Change" today, I did get something. The god and Satan in "Paradise Lost" can probably be similar to the father and son in "Carbon Change". That is a question of patriarchy. If you understand it this way, it feels like there is no problem.
Patriarchy: Compassion and Pride
Children or Satan: Rebellion and freedom go hand in hand
