happy education

Teacher Hiccup presents two themes: Tourette Syndrome, a rare disease, and the education of slum children.

For the first time, I learned about Tourette Syndrome, which is translated as Tourette's Syndrome. It is a neurological disorder in which the patient makes involuntary throat-clearing sounds like hiccups or shaking his head. The heroine of the film is a patient with Tourette's syndrome.

As a scholar with a double degree of Bachelor of Science and Master of Education, her ideal is to be a teacher of the people. After being rejected by 18 schools in five years, she still did not give up hope and was finally accepted by her alma mater.

However, her admission was only a last resort of the school. The 9F class where she served as the head teacher has expelled 7 teachers in seven months. According to the ranking, Class 9F is the class with the worst grades, with only 14 students, all of them are children from slums, young, frivolous and rebellious. Much like left-behind children in China.

The heroine's education method is very special. She does not stick to the textbook outline. She believes that there are many solutions to a problem, and there is no need to be entangled in the standard answer. She taught parabolas by throwing eggs and demonstrated free fall with basketballs. She will origami planes and eat popsicles with her students. This reminds me of our Chinese teacher in high school, she would show us classic Hollywood movies in Chinese class.

Many times of mischief did not drive the heroine crazy, but the heroine influenced the children of the slums and made them realize that they are talented in some aspects. She trusts these children and is willing to take responsibility for them. She believes that there are no bad students, only bad teachers.

Having Tourette's Syndrome is not scary, what is scary is not being able to face the ridicule and stigma caused by this disease.

The female protagonist's education method is not only aimed at slum children. The female protagonist eventually became the principal of this school. Presumably her concept of happy education has penetrated into the entire teaching process of the school.

This film is adapted from the 2008 American film "Call Me No. 1", which has a good combination with the national conditions of India.
