Apart from the acting skills of the various actors in the play, there is nothing to recommend about this movie.
First, the film spends an hour telling Nigel's childhood, divided into two parts:
1. When the mother was still alive, the kitchen was full of chickens and dogs and there was no delicious food;
2. The stepmother came to the house, made all kinds of food, and captured the father with the food;
Let’s talk about the mother who has a small role in the show. It really shows her love for Nigel in many ways, but almost when the mother’s cooking skills are poor, you can add some jokes or interesting things. However, in the play, it is only told in a very ordinary and straightforward way. up to this point. In terms of acting, it can only be said that there are no mistakes, there are not many scenes, and there is no particular highlight of the characters in the plot.
Then there is the father. Maybe he wants to convey the way his father expresses his love is very subtle, but it is too subtle. There are only a few shots that can reflect the father's love. Father's irritability is indeed deeply rooted in people's hearts, but often for insufficient reasons. Thirdly, in the matter of stepmother and Nigel, father has no other expression except simply saying one sentence to give her a chance.
Then came the stepmother, who didn't understand why Nigel hated her stepmother so much. The stepmother did her due responsibilities, taking care of her father, cleaning the house, and never mistreating Nigel. It can even be said that without the superb cooking skills of his stepmother, it would not have aroused Nike's competitive spirit and Nike's exploration of food in the future.
The plot of the first hour was too long and procrastinated. If the director wanted to highlight the unhappiness of Nigel's childhood, it was not a success. If you want to highlight the food, every time the food is flashed, do you want us to see it? Miserable is not miserable enough, food is not delicious enough, family love is not enough, even as a biography, the story is not attractive enough.
Nigel undoubtedly had a repressed, controlled childhood, but! It's not prominent in the whole movie, there is no pre-bedding, and there is no transition in the middle, only Nigel said to him when he kissed the restaurant owner's son, I don't want to be alone. There are many good points in the whole film that can focus on describing Nigel's heart. For example, after his mother died, Nigel slept with his mother's clothes; for example, his father took Nigel to the country and left his little friends; After arriving, he wanted to win his father's attention everywhere.
There is also the final love, where is the foreshadowing... When the gardener changes his clothes?
In the description of the gardener, it is the person who brought Nigel a new food experience when his mother was alive, and the person who Nigel can tell his inner feelings, but there is no basic feeling.
In the film, the death of the mother and the arrival of the stepmother do not feel the conflict before and after, nor the power of contradiction. Nigel in the film made me feel more like a person who doesn't know how to be considerate of his family, discriminates against people at the bottom, and doesn't want to listen to other people's emotions. He doesn't consider his father's pain of losing his mother, doesn't accept the arrival of his stepmother (he's mentioned more often that she's just a cleaner), and he never listens to his father's heart.
I believe Nigel is not that kind of person, only people with a rich and kind heart can make unparalleled food, but this is a failed film, this is a film without emotion.
