[Hope is clear in the dark night]
Syrian refugee Khaled Ali, whose home was bombed, stumbled onto a boat bound for Finland in search of his lost sister. After packing his luggage, putting down his ring and keys, and getting married, Vicstrom decided to start a new life. Two men who were determined in their hearts met on an empty midnight street in Finland, and then went their separate ways towards the end of their lives.
【Dawn is the appearance of reality】
Wickstrom wins a lucky win at the casino, only to land in a half-dead restaurant. Khalid went to the Finnish police to seek asylum under the refugee policy, only to be deported. Khalid, who was disappointed with the Finnish government, escaped the guards, and Wikstrom took Khalid, who had nowhere to live, in the restaurant, and the two male protagonists intertwined again. Wickstrom saved the bleak restaurant and marriage by constantly adjusting his business strategy. Khalid hides from the police with a fake identity and reunites with his sister. Everything seems to be worth it, but Khalid was attacked by anti-Semites. What will he choose when he is stabbed by reality again?
[Finnish warmth under the cold face]
The reason for the repatriation that ignores the facts in the film is full of irony and inhumanity. The Finnish government's tightening policy on refugees is disappointing. On the contrary, the Finns who are often dissed have given Khalid the strength and selfless help that he will not give up in distress. The help of the refugee reception center staff to escape, the homeless people to come forward, the shelter of Wickstrom, the maintenance of the restaurant staff, the assistance of the freight driver... Finnish warmth is more prominent in the silent atmosphere outlined in the film. Yun Dan, not asking for anything in return, not expecting gratitude, seems to be the decency of the Finns blended into the calm blood to be admired.
【What is the other side of hope】
Desperate? Obviously not. Even Khalid, the film's most tragic, smiles sweetly at the end of the credits. Sister Khalid's unsubmissiveness in refusing to change her name, Khalid's refugee friend's helplessness to hide her sadness and force her happiness, Finnish street singer's freedom to drown her life in music, Vikstrom's courage and never give up Responsibility... is the other side of their respective hopes - an attitude to live out in the face of reality.
Well, some people complained that it was a hypnotic movie, but after waking up, I watched it obediently. This silent, minimalist film largely reflects the Finnish character, taciturn, hard-mouthed, restrained, and delicate: I would rather come all the way to talk to you than call you, and I would rather spend a thousand dollars to help you He doesn't say a nice word, he is satisfied with a glass of beer and a can, and his emotions are hidden in the music. This is the authentic cool and delicate Finnish film.
