In the first episode, the unmanned group restored self-confidence to a sloppy uncle in a short period of time, and reunited with his ex-wife. I felt that this was too positive, so I kind of rejected such a simple reversal model.
After watching the next few episodes, I began to find that there are many unexpected thoughts hidden in the plot and dialogue.
In the 4th episode, a gay who has not come out to his stepmother was transformed. Unexpectedly, this gay dress is actually very straight, with overalls, white shirts, and engineering men's standard dress. What? Isn't this show a big makeover of straight men? no! Definitely not for straight men. Back to the topic of thinking, the male protagonist said that he didn't want to dress too fashionably, because he was afraid that outsiders would see his sexual orientation, so he only wore white, black and gray, and refused gay's favorite pink.
I feel very sad to see this. Many men and women who have not come out of the closet, in order not to expose their sexual tendencies at work, not only have to hide their queer hearts, but also over-package themselves as "standard equipment". Men are afraid of fans and mothers. When it comes to taking part in straight men's pornographic jokes, women will deliberately grow long hair and wear skirts, and even make up a boyfriend. On the contrary, many straight men who like to dress up do not have this kind of trouble of being misunderstood.
In this episode, although the final expression is that the male protagonist comes out to his stepmother and can introduce his boyfriend well, this release is indeed pleasant, but when the clothes that are deliberately concealed and gradually become a habit are completely abandoned, the kind of wearing back Clothes of your own style and your own feelings are also a good way to let people in the cabinet accept you and recognize your own identity more.
Episodes 5 and 9 are a good comparison, not about transforming objects, but about two different concepts of queer. The uncle in episode 5 is from the traditional southern United States, and has a very strong religious awareness. Even the church pews that he sat on when he was a child were transformed into dining tables. Such a traditional middle-aged man, when he finally thanked the five people, said very emotionally and firmly, no matter who you are or what religious background, our family will always support you. It made one of the members from the South burst into tears.
but! Who said everyone would be so considerate and accept the queer? Episode 8 is the last counterexample. Although the firefighter training captain has always been polite during the recording process, in the final individual interview, he directly stated that both himself and the firefighters live in a more traditional environment, and he still disagrees with these things that are different from the traditional, but Still a big thank you to the team for their help. Just when I was about to watch the reaction of the five-member group, the program group did not continue, but let this voice of opposition appear, that's all. This made me think that America is good and everyone is nice to the queer, and I come with a little different material to give you real "diversity", there are straights and bends, there are support and opposition.
