This animated film describes a family living under the control of the Taliban in Afghanistan. The father was originally a teacher. He lost a leg because of the war. Forced to make a living, the father took his second daughter (about 14.5 years old) to the street. The previous generation read letters, wrote letters on behalf of others, and occasionally sold some of their belongings. The father was thrown into prison by the Taliban for unprovoked reasons, leaving the mother, the eldest daughter (over 18 years old), the second daughter and the youngest son (about 2 years old) at home.
The mother tried to appeal for the father, but was beaten badly. In the area controlled by the Taliban, women and girls need to be led by the men of the family, otherwise they are not allowed to go out alone. The family was about to run out of food. The second daughter went to the street to buy some food for the first time, but was almost beaten. She had no choice but to dress up as a boy to go out. Purchasing was very successful. In order to supplement the family, the second daughter continued to read and write letters on behalf of others for a living. She also sold her favorite dresses, in order to save money to bribe prison guards, and even had feelings for saving her father. hope.
In the days of working on the street, the second daughter met a classmate who was like herself dressed as a man. They worked together, went to the sugar factory to pick up candy bars, encountered danger together, and fled together. The female classmate told her second daughter that she likes the sea the most and hopes to earn enough money to leave here one day. Her father didn't take her seriously, and would only find someone to marry her casually when she was an adult.
The second daughter met a prison guard while reading a letter on the street. He was illiterate. During the process of reading the letter, he established a deep friendship with the second daughter. The second daughter begged him to rescue her father. The guard agreed and let her Go to the jail again on Wednesday. The mother of the second daughter wrote to her relatives to ask for help. The other party said that she would come to pick up her eldest daughter and their family soon, because the relatives had already found a private home for the eldest daughter to marry.
When Wednesday arrived, the second daughter said goodbye to her female classmates and walked to the prison alone. The relatives who introduced the eldest daughter to marriage also came to pick them up, and the war was about to break out. In the prison, everyone was busy evacuating. The guard who read the letter wanted to take the father of the second daughter out of the prison, but another guard found and injured him. In the end, the guard rescued the father, and he back to prison. The second daughter walked with her father in the vast night, and finally met her mother, sister and brother who resisted marriage in the barren and broken wilderness.
End of story.
The story is not complicated and tortuous. The production team of this film is the original crew of the animated film "Song of the Sea". I was once amazed at the beauty of the film, exquisite and delicate, with unique aesthetic taste and warm pictures. And "The Breadwinner", this film is based on the story of an ordinary family in the war-torn Middle East country Afghanistan, an area ruled by an extremist organization. The picture is still exquisite, but it has a deep obscurity, and it is a deep sadness to see it. Boys and girls can't go to school normally, women can't go out freely, men are arrested for no reason, and boys can't avoid being dragged into the battlefield. This desert flower that once bloomed was pushed into the abyss.
Talk about topics that have nothing to do with the movie. Due to its special geographical location in the connection between Europe and Asia, Afghanistan in history has been ravaged, occupied and plundered by European powers for a long time. After being ruled by the Taliban (Islamic "students"), the country has not come out of a tragic fate, and has become increasingly impoverished in the constant wars and tyranny. This can't help but remind me of Iraq and Syria, the same geopolitics, the same victims of the great power game, the same disregard for the life and death of the poor, and the same refugee tide.
In this era when the earth is getting smaller and smaller and people's information is getting older and more synchronized, a monsoon fanned by a butterfly may evolve into endless wildfires in California.
While people in other countries are celebrating the holidays with joy, the global refugee crisis and racist hatred are quietly sweeping Europe. When the United States builds a high separation wall and refuses refugees to enter, when the civilian population in many European countries is more and more fucking Muslims, we have 100 reasons to believe that the day when the war will resume in the future is getting closer.
The complexity of the Middle East issue is something that many people do not understand. Jews and Muslims once had the same spirit and shared the same religion and gods. However, in the following thousands of years, because of the ownership of land, beliefs, and the game of great powers, the holy city of Jerusalem has been turned into a hell on earth, the fire of war has become wider and wider, and the seeds of hatred have been spread from generation to generation. The beliefs of this race are scattered all over the world.
When the Bamiyan Buddha collapsed, mankind lost not only thousands of years of culture, history and culture, but also the complete destruction of each other's beliefs and civilizations, disrespect and even slander. When the most basic customs and personal beliefs of a group of people are offended or even destroyed by violence, a struggle will inevitably arise. When there is war, there will be bloodshed and death, and people's disrespect for life is the inevitable end of mankind's ultimate demise.
I choked up several times while watching this animation. The survival needs of individuals and the differential treatment of individuals all make me feel happy in life. In fact, our life is not bad now. Thinking of the civilians in war-torn countries, we have nothing to regret. When we are intoxicated, how many people just want to live simply. None of us are powerful politicians, but I have a very small wish, that the war will end sooner, and the displaced people will return to their homeland to build and pursue their own happiness.
After the film, a little background introduction from the producer and director, two people are women, one of them is Angelina Jolie, she is the special envoy of the UNHCR High Commissioner, she has personally visited many poverty-stricken and war-torn areas to offer condolences. Give a little comfort to the people there, and do one last bit of effort for this flashy world. We may not be able to ask every celebrity and rich person to abandon their selfish desires and do something for charity, but I still applaud those who do it hard, because every little kindness may become a bunch of chases on other people's heads. Light, there is a glimmer of hope for the clouds to see the sun.
