The following contains spoilers! It is recommended that you refer to the first four commandments after reading, and you are welcome to make suggestions and supplements (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)

Let me first add the relevant history of Poland here. When Lao Ji took the Ten Commandments in 1989, it was the time when the Polish society was gradually stabilizing, but some pain and scars from the past remained. At that time, art works were strictly controlled by the government, and Polish artists were suppressed. After a long time, they need to express their very strong emotions. They can't let go of their care for the society, but they can't let the government see the clues. They will shoot some obscure but very profound films. Therefore, many Polish works will show same feature. When reading Polish works of art, I also strongly recommend that you refer to the relevant history, and will read the deeper connotations of its history and culture.

The creed of the fourth commandment is to respect parents, and Lao Ji tells about a father and daughter whose relationship is somewhat distorted, which can further broaden the inner meaning of this creed.

The fourth commandment is narrated around the father and daughter, which is also Laoji's consistent style, using the least number of individuals to express the state of the entire Polish society. The complex and difficult feelings of the father and daughter are actually talking about the director's feelings for Poland. The daughter is exploring her relationship with her father, and director Lao Ji is exploring the history of Poland.

At the beginning of the film, the father and daughter look solemn through the blinds, and we have doubts in our hearts, who are they? what relationship? What are they thinking? This is exactly what Lao Ji hopes. He wants to ask us a question at the beginning, and let us gradually get an explanation from the film with the question. When we pour water to each other, we can see that the daughter and the The relationship between the father and the harmonious and relaxed relationship revealed a little ambiguity, but we also found that after the father poured water on his daughter, he was somewhat evasive. After the daughter sent her father to the hospital, she went to the hospital to check her eyes. She was short-sighted. She couldn't see her father's plane, but in fact, she couldn't see her relationship with her father.

Next, it was Anka who hesitated to read the letter. She was confused, she was afraid to face the truth, it was her lack of confidence in her relationship with her father, this letter was like a rose in Citizen Kane Flower buds, throughout the film, we still don't know what is written in it. She went to the lake where the first commandment child was drowned, and the man in the first commandment who was roasting a fire by the lake appeared. He was carrying a boat as if he was carrying a cross, suggesting that Anka's relationship with his father was about to be judged at any time. Anka likes her father, but has to make out with her boyfriend who "should" be with her. She looks rebellious, but is subject to social ethics. In acting class, Anka can't devote herself to it. She asks the teacher why, but she can't do it either. I understand why she loves her father so much, she can't show her love for boys, but she can't hide her love for her father.

When his father came back, Anka went to pick him up. She wore glasses, like a layer of defense. When her father slapped Anka, Anka went to her boyfriend's house in a hurry and promised to marry him. The father kicked the door angrily in the room. He wanted to avoid this problem, but the glass was broken as a barrier. The father and daughter knew that it was time to formally face this problem. The daughter came back and spoke her heart, but the father still chose to avoid the problem. The fire that appeared in the Ten Commandments many times appeared again. The fire seemed to indicate disaster. intertwined at the moment.

The daughter's emotions erupted for the first time in her own room. This room is very interesting. Blue is the main color. There is a shadow of the red, blue and white trilogy that Lao Ji later filmed. From red to blue to white, Lao Ji must have pre-planned hahaha) Blue here can also be interpreted as freedom and repression, Anka finally spoke her heart, but she could not be free, she was also ethic and moral repression. And this room is affixed with an advertisement for Winston cigarettes and hangs an American flag. Lao Ji uses such a room here to insinuate the status quo of Poland being invaded by capitalism at that time. Father walked into Anka's room and saw her naked back, his head bumped slightly against the wind chimes, and his heart fluctuated slightly, but he still suppressed his emotions. Then his father also expressed his true feelings to Anka. To a certain extent, Anka's heart was also satisfied and relieved. Anka eventually burned the letter, as if the historical truth had been gently sealed.

"Everything is very chaotic, no one knows what is right, what is wrong, or even why we continue to live." Lao Ji's film has profound meaning both at the time and now. It's really fascinating. You can freely interpret everything with your understanding. One shot and one picture seems to have insight into the world in the eyes of the director of that era, and when you really understand the director's ideas, you will be happy for their ideas. Amazed, there is only one sentence left, as expected of him!
