I understand the symbols chosen by the director very well, and I also feel the boredom of political correctness.
The constant flashes of mirror images and self-views, the boxing props used to vent, the looming lover, the denied partner status...including walking against the wind, all convey the plight of a symbolic transgender person.
But is it the plight of "this woman"?
Has she loved anyone before and how did her childhood feel about singing? These are the details that distinguish one person from another, heartbreak for her tears, and soft-hearted details, which I have not seen.
The whole film is colorful, probably the three times the heroine sings. "Love is like the headline of an old newspaper, who wants to read it?"
Thinking about Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, I feel that this Oscar is really politically correct.
