On the plane returning from Japan, I was attracted by the poster and watched it. The Korean original sound and English subtitles made it clear to me.
At that time, the title presented on the film was "Forgotten". When I checked it back, our translation was "Night of Memory".
It's a standard three-part story, full of twists and turns, full of fog.
The first paragraph, the victim.
The 20-year-old boy moved into a new home with his family. The house was large but full of eerie atmosphere.
There is an inaccessible room in the house, said to be left by the previous owner, and there seems to be an occasional strange sound from inside.
However, he was frail and often took medicine, perhaps from hallucinations or dreams.
He is very dependent on his brother, who is gentle, kind and excellent. Although he was limped in a traffic accident, it did not affect his role in becoming his idol.
But on a rainy night, he witnessed his brother being taken away by a group of people of unknown origin.
No trace, not even a single extortion call. The police were at a loss, and as time passed, they gradually lost interest in detection.
He was frightened and in pain, dreaming every day that his brother was tortured to death.
It wasn't until ten days later that my brother came back by himself. He was unscathed except for the memory of his disappearance.
The word "memory" in the title appears here for the first time.
Where the hell did he go? Captured by whom? Why take him away? What has he been through? Why can he come back?
No way of knowing.
But one day the boy discovered an amazing big secret. He followed his brother who went out in the middle of the night, and found that he was completely different: fierce, neat, strong, and his leg was not lame.
Moreover, the group of people following my brother are the police officers who came to the house to handle the case before, but they are not like the police at all at this moment.
He was terrified.
This man is not his brother! His brother must have died during the time he was taken!
He told his mother all this with great trepidation, but he overheard his mother reporting everything he said to "brother".
Neither does the mother seem to be the mother, nor the father. His family is gone, and they seem to be the strangers guarding him to trap him in this spooky house, and he's an embattled victim.
So what is their purpose?
The second paragraph, the murderer.
He broke through the heavy siege of "parents" and "brother" and rushed out, stopping a police car.
The police car took him into the police station and he was finally safe.
The police took a statement and asked about his date of birth. He said he was born in 1977 and is twenty years old this year.
The people in the police station laughed, feeling that they had picked up a lunatic. Born in 1977, then this year should be forty years old.
He walked towards the mirror in disbelief, and indeed saw a vicissitudes face in it.
My brother is not my brother, my mother is not my mother, my father is not my father, and now, I am not myself.
What about the youthful twenty-year-old boy? Where did it go?
Is it the same as the brother who was taken away? No trace, no memory left.
In order to find the truth, he had to go back to the gloomy house again. This time, a beautiful symphony was playing in the house, two models of corpses were lying down, and blood was dripping everywhere in the living room.
"Brother", "mother" and "father" stood in the house and said to him: "20 years ago, you killed the mother and daughter in this house, now we need to hear the truth."
What mother and daughter? Where does the truth come from? How could he possibly kill? He can't remember.
It was the phrase "can't remember", so even though the statute of limitations for the prosecution had passed, the relatives of the victims in the case still found someone to track him down and find someone to help him restore his memory.
His memory was stuck on the day he moved 20 years ago, so they re-set the scene for him, asked a hypnotist to hypnotize him, and then asked someone to pretend to be his relative, and wanted him to follow that day to find the murder memory.
The frightened, weak and innocent "twenty-year-old boy" in the first paragraph turns out to be a brutal murderer.
The third paragraph, "Survivor".
The door of memory opened, and it turned out to be so unbearable.
Twenty years ago, a twenty-year-old boy moved into a new home with his family.
Along the way, the blue sky and white clouds, the breeze blowing, the willows weeping and the grass green. The father was driving the car, and the elder brother sat beside him chatting and laughing with his father, and he leaned on his mother's shoulder affectionately. That moment was so beautiful. Since then, his memory will always stop at that moment.
Because, after that moment, it was the opening of hell for him.
In a car accident, his parents died, and his brother was dying in a hospital bed. He urgently needed a sum of money for an operation.
The powerless 20-year-old boy was devastated, and the sky was no longer blue.
In desperation, he left the words "you can do anything with money" online. Someone contacted him and told him to kill.
He went to the big, cold house. There lived a gentle mother and her pair of children in the house. Of course, he couldn't do it. He was about to escape, but was discovered by the party concerned, and a tragedy happened during the fight. The mother and daughter fell in a pool of blood, and he fled in a hurry.
As he fled, he caught a glimpse of a family portrait in the house, the man on which was his brother's attending doctor.
It turned out that the doctor was the one who instructed him to kill. The financial turmoil led to his bankruptcy. In order to defraud insurance money to tide over the crisis, he had to plan to kill his wife. But because of his mistake, his wife died and his daughter died too. The doctor pounced on him angrily, but accidentally fell from the roof.
From then on, only he knew the truth.
In an instant, facing the successive deaths of several people, how can a twenty-year-old boy bear it?
He deleted this memory and protected himself.
However, he wanted to bury and hide behind his memory, but someone wanted to reveal his memory and push him to the front.
The only surviving little boy in the murder case has grown up and he wants to know the truth!
The memory finally lived up to expectations, how could he live?
His father died, his mother died, his brother was gone because he had no money for treatment, and his home was destroyed.
He killed, confused, and another warm home was destroyed by him.
He is ill-fated and sinful, what qualification does he have to wait for the sun to rise tomorrow!
After the truth is revealed, how will he survive?
His father died, his mother was killed, his sister was killed, and he grew up hard as an orphan.
Revenge is the only belief that supports him. But it turned out that the real culprit was his father, who destroyed his family for money.
His belief eventually became a joke, he was the child of a murderer, how could he deserve to live?
At the end of the TV series "Swinging", it was so inspirational and uplifting. The hero and heroine finally defeated the shackles of fate and finally conquered everything. They said: "The heaven and the earth are not benevolent, and they are born to death."
There is nothing wrong with the two boys in this movie. They were originally so simple and ordinary, bathed in the love of their parents, but an accident and a crisis changed everything.
Sometimes, heaven and earth are not benevolent, and the result is eternal death.
No matter how hard they try, their family can't be resurrected, and no matter how hard they try, they can't return to their original self.
But who can they blame?
If he did it all over again, he would still choose to kill in the face of his dying brother after the car accident.
Fate is so difficult for them.
The film ends with a natural death, and they are the "survivors" of the two events, but they both wanted to die together at that time.
Is "die" too cowardly? No, fate is too powerful.
This is a very sad movie. But who said it, you admit the helplessness of life, that is growth.
