Hello everyone, I'm Longtao Xiayi.

In the last issue, the editor talked to you about 10 tough guy characters in war dramas.

In this issue, let's talk about a sniper-themed movie - "The Wall of Life and Death".

The background of the film is the end of the Iraq war, telling the story of two soldiers of the US sniper team against an Iraqi sniper.

At the beginning of the film, the S33 sniper team went to investigate a sniper who had successfully killed several American soldiers and foreign staff. Under the scorching sun, the two hid in the lurking place to observe the incident for several hours. Because there was no trouble on the opposite side, the S33 team thought that the enemy had left, so they relaxed their vigilance.

US Sergeant Sean, played by WWE champion John Cena, lost his disguise and went to check on the incident, but he couldn't afford to be shot.

After Sean fell to the ground, his partner Isaac rushed to support, but was also shot by the opponent's sniper in the radio and right leg while running.

It turned out that Iraqi snipers, like the S33 squad, were also hiding and observing them. The two sides spent several hours on each other, and it was up to whoever lost his temper first.

The two sides entered a standoff after the shot Isaac was forced to hide behind a brick wall.

Sean didn't die. With his last breath and the guidance of Isaac, he tried to counterattack, but he was shot by the opponent in the end.

At this time, Isaac also discovered the true intention of the Iraqi snipers - "encircling the point to fight for reinforcements".

Seeing that the rescue helicopter was getting closer and closer, in order to prevent his comrades from being ambushed again, Isaac pushed down the brick wall. After one shot, the opponent did not fight back.

Isaac was rescued and the helicopter took off.

But at this moment, the Iraqi sniper pulled the trigger, and after several shots, the rescue helicopter crashed.

The movie ends.

The movie and Ryan Reynolds' "Buried Alive" is similar in style to Clint Farrell's "Sniper Phone Booth."

The whole scene is single, just a brick wall.

Three roles: two American snipers and one Iraqi sniper. Among them, the sergeant played by John Cena is not much, and the Iraqi sniper does not show his face.

Relying on the creation of suspense and the contrast of the atmosphere, when you look at it as a whole, you don't feel procrastination and boredom, but you are drawn by the plot.

At the end, you will exclaim that the Iraqi sniper is the real protagonist.

The biggest highlight of this film is that it successfully created an Iraqi sniper who can only hear his voice but not see his face.

You don't know where he is, but you know he must be there.

This state of certainty and confusion is the most uncomfortable, and it is precisely because the film captures this that the plot can arouse the audience's nerves.

The Wall quotes

  • [first lines]

Matthews: [sighting through his scope from a bush] Nothin'. Hit n' run. Whoever it was they're gone. War's over, he got the memo.

    [sighs]

    Matthews: Ize?

    [bird squawking]

    Matthews: Allen? Ize!

    Isaac: [on his radio] What?

Matthews: We got no movement, not a sign of a shadow... How long we been here, man? 18, plus?

    Isaac: 20.

Matthews: [sighs] Jesus. There's nobody fuckin' out there, man.

    Isaac: Less he's a pro.

    Matthews: A Haji?

    Isaac: I'm just saying, maybe.

  • Juba: You Americans. You think you know it all. You think it's simple. That I am your enemy. But we are not so different, you and I.

Isaac: Yeah, 'cept I ain't a fuckin' terrorist.

Juba: And you think I am? You are the one who has come to another man's country. Camouflaged yourself in his land, in his soil. From where I'm sitting, *you* look very much like the terrorist.
