The three ghost stories correspond to the three characters who appeared after the male protagonist was in a coma, and the stories of these three people evolved from his own memory.
First, the abandoned mental hospital. The cleaning uncle in the hospital ward, listening to the radio, moved the mirror in front of the male protagonist's glasses, so that he just saw the upside-down window. This mirror image appears several times in the film. The bird hitting the window also corresponds to the dead bird in the mental hospital. The real memory is that Ersha walked into the dark cave with a flashlight. The man in the cave had also been forced to go in, so when the two bear children called him, he replied that he would not go in again.
Second, the monster in the woods. The trainee in the ward, the parents are always calling to interfere with their work. The male protagonist may feel that this intern is unreliable, and he still answers his parents' phone calls at any time. It's as dangerous as someone answering the phone while driving without a driver's license. Of course, encountering a demon while driving corresponds to the fact that the male protagonist committed suicide in the car. As for where the demon image came from, it may be because the woods where the male protagonist passed home when he was a child has reached the bear children waiting to bully him in the woods, which made him feel fearful. And it feels like facing the devil. And the photo I saw at the intern's house was of Ersha and the two bear children in front of the cave, and the doctor wearing a surgical gown upstairs corresponds to the real ward. The intern said "comatose, locked, he may be living for a long time", the uncle's daughter is also sick.
The third, a middle-aged man who committed suicide with a shotgun. After the attending physician checked the condition, he laughed out loud when he saw the information on the phone. Before going out, it is unwise to ridicule the male protagonist of committing suicide in the car, and he should shoot his head with a shotgun. He also quoted a sentence from his teacher, "May he have a good dream.". So, in the ghost story, the doctor committed suicide with a shotgun. Is Charles Cameron, the hero's idol at the beginning of the movie, the teacher Charlie Cameron the doctor said (in ghost story 1, he once said that he was a professor, but he was sometimes mistaken called teacher)? The doll in the crib is placed on the hospital chair.
The three ghost stories may be the dream of the male protagonist, or the spiritual world of the male protagonist after he is in a coma. As the doctor said, the male protagonist's condition is like an empty house with the lights on but no one is home. Whether it's a dream or a fantasy, it's both real and fantasy. Just like we usually dream, we occasionally remember things in reality, and occasionally we get confused and think that the dead are still alive. So what does a male protagonist look like in reality? Growing up in a religious family, he may feel that his parents don't care much about him. He was bullied when he was a child, and after his inaction caused Ersha's accidental death, he always felt guilty and blamed himself. When he grew up, he became a professor who exposed pseudo-spiritual events. He showed that he was an atheist. Maybe he hoped to find evidence of the existence of souls. As said at the beginning of the movie, it is unacceptable that dead relatives disappear. If the soul really exists, then there may be a chance of redemption for killing Ersha by himself, and it may also be possible to make up for the fact that he rarely visits his paralyzed father who finally died in a nursing home. Then the facts disappointed him time and time again, there is no soul demon in this world, and there will be no two silly ghosts to seek revenge for him. He may not have been married, his wife and children are ghost images in his spiritual world, because the family environment may cause him to fear marriage. He ended up committing suicide, and I think it might have been his father's death that was the last straw that broke him. It's not that others can't forgive you, it's that you can't forgive yourself.
There may be a lot of details that echo the beginning and the end, and I can't get it, and I can't remember the names of the characters and chapters. Of course, some of the above are my own assumptions. Personally, I like this movie very much, very innovative horror movie. It was a surprise to have Watson.
