The greatest test of human nature - "No One Survives"

Even if you know the ending from the beginning, "No Survivor" is recommended by the BBC on the 125th anniversary of Grandma's birthday. This should be regarded as a commemoration of Grandma.

Probably because the story is widely known, this adaptation is more inclined to atmosphere rendering and character characterization, but weakens the expression of the original reasoning plot and the core idea of "punishing crimes that cannot be punished by law".

This classic suspense mystery novel was adapted and later used for reference by the events of Conan and Jin Tianyi, so that we can know the foundation of grandma's plot setting and the psychological grasp of the characters.

This time, let's talk about my favorite characters in the short play.

1. William & Emily

In the skit, William is set as a homosexual, a very contradictory person, who keeps saying that he hates homosexuality but is ambiguous with the same sex in behavior. For the innocent little boy, William was still comforting him at first, but his face suddenly changed when he stood up. There was a sense of unwillingness and a sense of self-loathing for William at the time, and he shut the cell door and started torturing the young boy.

Also, the sanctimonious Emily. Anyone who first comes into contact with Emily should believe that she is a devout religious believer and a fan of class. Whether it is for Vera or the housekeeper couple, Emily always puts on a high profile to "educate" and "give out" to them. But no one expected that she also has the same-sex ambiguous tendency, sucks her fingers for her adopted daughter, and has a strong possessiveness towards her adopted daughter. This drove her to abandon her adopted daughter in anger after she learned she was pregnant with someone else. I remember someone commenting on Qin Keqing in "A Dream of Red Mansions" before, saying that any feelings and desires that have been suppressed for too long may be out of control once they find an opportunity to vent. I think Emily might fall into this category.

2. General MacArthur

A calm, remorseful general. What impressed me most was that when everyone was about to leave Soldier Island, he sat alone by the sea, feeling the eerie silence before the hunt. Looking at the sea, he said nothing, his face was silent. I think at that time he knew better than anyone else that he couldn't escape. The battle-hardened experience and remorse for the sins he had committed made him more and more calm, and he waited peacefully for his own death.

3. Lombard

King Yan in the play. I think the beginning of the skit is well handled, depicting the scene where he meets Vera for the first time. The look in Vera's eyes ranged from admiration and teasing to teasing, all paving the way for the future. Naked and unbridled eyes make people feel that he has always been a cheeky person. So, when faced with the charges, he was the only one who dared to admit that he had killed 21 people. This kind of "bad guy"'s daring and daring responsibility is in stark and ironic contrast to the "good guy"'s pretentious attitude.

More ironically, his feelings for Vera. A "bad guy" who once killed 21 people for diamonds really protects and loves Vera. He was always willing to believe Vera, he didn't mind her killing, but he wanted to know the real reason for Vera's killing. To be honest, he did not exchange for Vera's sincere treatment, but his maintenance and sincere promises exchanged for Vera's suspicion and murder. This seemingly evil and greedy villain was killed by the gun of his beloved. Human nature is so contradictory and ironic.

4. Vera

The best disguised person in the show. Beneath the veneer of self-denial, revenge and thoughtful kindness hides the most wicked souls. As the heroine of the short sentence, Vera never admits her guilt from beginning to end, which is the opposite of Lombard.

In the beginning, the drawstrings of the curtains on the train had heralded her end. Vera is a very smart woman, she tried to impress everyone with traditional and kindness from the beginning, she showed her kindness and politeness to the highest ranking Wargrav Judge and Wargrav General, and to the upper class Emily. upbringing. As the plot progresses, and deaths appear one after another, she begins to suspect and slander; after the judge and the general are dead, Vera seduces Lombard in order to survive, and at the end shoots and kills Lombard without hesitation, just for the sake of herself. survive. Vera quickly emerges from her despair when she learns that this is all by the judge's design, and she brazenly advises Wargrav on how to get rid of the crime.

Compared with the trust and desire to protect Lombard, it has to be said that this woman is really selfish and ruthless. She shows that the real evils do not surface, they never reveal their existence, they are good at hiding under the surface of "goodness" and use human nature to achieve their own goals.

In the short play, I have to say, Maeve performed wonderfully, she accurately grasped Vera's prudence, collapse, hypocrisy and shamelessness, including the smugness in her testimony.

5. Wargrav

The big boss in the play, his professional identity determines that he can be respected and control the overall situation from the beginning. Veteran actor Danse's performance in the scene where Edward was hanged made a deep impression on me. The feeling of fear and avoidance but also gratification and excitement was well handled.

Watching Edward's death sentence was both sardonic and exciting for Judge Wargrav. For a judge who has been a judge for more than four decades, Wargrav cannot accept that a twisted pervert has made his name in history by torturing and abusing others. He insists on justice, despises morality, and hopes that Wargrav, who is famous in history, chooses a method similar to Edward to maintain the justice in his heart. He hopes that he can create an unsolvable secret room murder for future generations to remember him and make those who escape the law to submit.

This BBC miniseries, although it weakens the explanation of the modus operandi, is meticulous in telling the story from a human point of view. The contradiction between before and after human nature constantly promotes the development of the plot, and also attracts the audience to explore the selfishness and complexity of human nature. In addition to this, the scenes of the short play are very beautiful, and every frame is as beautiful as a wallpaper. More importantly, the shooting of many scenes has a strong foreshadowing, which will constantly cause people to doubt and think. Such a design will make the audience unable to relive it and want to understand the purpose of each scene design. The first time is surprising, the second time is intriguing, and the third time it will be clear. This is the perception that an excellent work should bring to the audience, and it is also an important reason why classics can last for a long time.

I feel that the biggest bug is the most important and exciting part of telling you who killed it, but not how to kill it

It focuses on character building, but the ending is too fast in the end, and there is no excitement in the twists and turns of the original novel at the end.
