Little resistance, big compromise

Really a standard good wife.

The movie's title is ironic. Xian can be extended to be virtuous, so what is virtuous? Xianhui refers to women who contribute to the family, have a gentle attitude, are kind, gentle and reasonable. And how did the wife in the film do it? Blindly forbearance, dedicating one's own talent and wisdom to another person's life, but finally ended up with a useless label. Perhaps in the eyes of her husband, she is a good wife. Constantly tolerate himself, express his own thoughts, and use her hands to gain status for himself. Even if you have an extramarital affair, just saying a word of forgiveness can win her trust back.

The so-called virtuous does not mean forbearance. We might say such a person is stupid, but his wife is not. In the days when she was a gunman, she also experienced unwillingness and pain. She could have been a world-renowned writer, but she couldn't, simply because she was a woman. As her alumni say, the books they write end up on school shelves, or even get published. But she is a writer, and what a writer needs to do is not only to write things out, but also to need readers to read her works and experience her emotions, so that she is a complete writer. In order to achieve this, she could only endure the humiliation and give up all the titles that should belong to her to her husband.

She resisted. At the end of the film, she finally couldn't bear it all and decided to file for divorce from her husband. But after that, her husband died of a heart attack. On the plane, she still did not convey the truth to the world, only warning the interviewer not to denigrate her husband's talent. This may be interpreted as the embodiment of their love. After all, the film took a lot of effort to render their love from beginning to end, but I can only see from the inside that this is another compromise after a resistance.

The heroine's acting is excellent. Before I knew she was the shooter, a few unnatural glances and a few subconscious movement avoidance always made me feel something was wrong. Especially when her husband was officially awarded the award, the envy, unwillingness and a little bit of anger in the eyes of the character were vividly reflected.

Of course, the film also has flaws. The plot is too bland, it feels like a running account, and it lacks climax. I can't help but want to fast-forward a few times during the process of watching. The son David is a man who has always hoped to be recognized by his father. He was originally an object to be excavated, but after his father's death, he only gave a shot on the plane, which is a real regret.

  • Joan Castleman: I am a kingmaker.

  • Joan Castleman: I can't do it anymore, Joe. I can't do it. I can't take it. I can't take the humiliation of holding your coat and arranging your pills and picking the crumbs out of your beard and being shoved aside with all the other wives to talk about some goddamn shopping trip while you, while you say to all the, the gathering sycophants that your wife doesn't write! Your wife, who just won the Nobel Prize!

Joe Castleman: So, if I'm such an insensitive and talentless fucking piece of shit, why the fuck did you marry me?
