This is not a standard American drama. It is unqualified from some perspectives of the script. Generally, the first pilot episode of an American drama is the top priority. At least 4 points need to be done: 1. Show that the set world is 2. Who are the main characters and what is the relationship between the characters? 3, what is the driving force of the story; 4, what is the core topic. The first episode of this show was a failure except for the first point. But this show was indeed ordered by AMC for 10 episodes, aren't they more professional than us? So it's really hard to say, maybe they will be tricked too? Some people may say that this is a slow-moving drama, but in American dramas, if the first pilot episode is slow, don't even think about getting orders.
