Desires don't lie

A gorgeous feast that shoots straight out of the human heart, a blessing full of confidence or a temptation to lead into the abyss, all of which will be revealed here.

On the barren coast, priests lead a group of devout believers to live a life of pure service. Their lives are like a test paper. The teachings instruct them to give up pleasure, and only after passing can they reach the paradise of bliss. The pastor's two beautiful daughters believed that only by rejecting temptations, such as suitors, could gain God's approval. Their tongues are not used to enjoy delicious food or to sing in the world, but to praise God and sing thanks. This kind of life is like the food they eat - salted fish batter, dry people's hearts, can't squeeze out any fantasy and longing for life.

When the two middle-aged sisters inherited the ministry of their deceased father, without an iron-fisted leadership, the church was torn apart. Despite the problems, the two daughters faithfully arranged meetings and cooked poached bread for the elderly who lost their teeth. Until the appearance of Babette, a woman exiled from France, who was helpless to seek help and became the helper of the two sisters, representing an unknown...

The climax of the story begins when Babette wins a 10,000-franc lottery ticket. She begs to cook a French feast for the faithful on the centenary night of the old priest. The fire would be out of control, so together with the church members, they agreed to completely forbid this meal psychologically. However, the stimulation of the senses and delicious food cannot be deceived. Babette has cooked all the delicacy that the church members regard as the devil's taboo, and turned it into a delicacy that makes people feel nourished from the bottom of the heart. The direct train of the church members began to spit out warm words from the serious and weathered hearts of the faithful, and all grievances began to melt at this time. In a series of exclamations, unarmed, they confided to each other their long-buried love and long-stored resentment, all poured out and transformed into words of mutual sympathy, in the sound of wine glasses colliding, Learn to love again. And for such a meal, Barbet's only 10,000 francs were spent, making her the chef of the Anglian restaurant again, like an artist who moved people's hearts with her creations. Is this meal a blessing or a sin? Desire will not deceive people, it is people who deceive, and there is only free will that is real enough to feed.

Babette's Feast quotes

  • General Lorens Löwenhielm: This is Blinis Demidoff! And this most certainly is Veuve Clicquot 1860!

  • General Lorens Löwenhielm: One day in Paris, after I'd won a riding competition, some French officers invited me out to dine at one of the city's finest restaurants, the Café Anglais. The chef, surprisingly enough, was a woman. We were served cailles en sarcophage, a dish of her own creation. General Galliffet, our host for the evening, explained that this woman, this head chef, had the ability to transform a dinner into a kind of love affair, a love affair that made no distinction between bodily appetite and spiritual appetite.
