New York teenager Frankie (Harris Dickinson) has a dying father from cancer and a estranged relationship with his mother. Frankie uses drugs with a few marginalized teenagers all day to pass the boring life. Outside of drugs, Frankie hid the secret of his desire for a same-sex body and made a sexy girlfriend. On the one hand, the inability to meet the physiological needs of his girlfriend makes Frankie very contradictory; on the other hand, while Frankie is struggling with whether he is gay or not, he is busy dating gays online.
"Beach Rat" is the work of female director Eliza Hitman, who won the Sundance Film Festival Best Director Award for Drama for this film.
Actor Harris Dickinson also took this nomination for Best Actor at the 33rd American Independent Spirit Awards. (The final winner is "Call Me By Your Name" by Timothy Chalamet of "Call Me By Your Name": Own me, ask me if I want it! )
The whole film focuses on the "deep cabinet" problem of gay teenagers. The overall effect of the soundtrack, pictures and editing is like a fragment of the male protagonist's private diary.
The director tried to make a thought-provoking gay literary film, but "Beach Rats" was not up to the standard of a literary film; it was a soap film, but some of the content in the film was worth exploring.
With the help of the label of "gay", the director extended to everyone's attitudes and choices in life.

[The scumbag is worse than the scumbag]
At the beginning of the film, it is the picture of Frankie browsing the gay dating site. Then I went out with my friends and met a beautiful girlfriend.
His girlfriend took the initiative to act shyly with Frankie, and Frankie, who was "unable to stand up" to women, could only use his overdose as an excuse.
After his girlfriend left, Frankie tried to get back together in order to hide from the public. The first time he had sex with his girlfriend, Frankie reluctantly had sex after he fucked himself hard next door. At the same time, Frankie fell in love with the old, and frequently made appointments with the elderly, outdoors, open houses and so on.
Taking a sexy girlfriend to a bar, Frankie was embarrassed when he met his former friend, the bartender. When he was halfway in love with his girlfriend in the cubicle, Frankie left his girlfriend halfway and started "seeking old age" again.
In addition to cheating on each other emotionally and sexually, Frankie was addicted to drugs.
Disregarding his cancer father, quietly pawned his mother's jewelry to buy drugs. Unable to buy in the end, Frankie teamed up with accomplices to lure other gays into robbing them of their finances and drugs.
I have never felt that homosexuality is an identity worthy of praise or depreciation, because sexual orientation is not a standard for measuring a person's good or bad, and sexual orientation is not linked to morality and value.
Homosexuals are not scumbags, and they should not be criticized for being ashamed to admit that they are gay, but it is very shameful to hide their sexual orientation while hurting others.
If you hide your gay status, you are deceiving yourself; if you hide your gay status and go out with other girls, you are deceiving others.
This is an issue on two levels.
I can accept physical marriage, but I have never been able to identify with gays who marry straight daughters.
You come out or come out of the closet, and only the family you belong to is hurt. If you hide your sexual orientation and marry a straight daughter who has absolutely no sexual impulses, you will hurt three families: your own, the other's, and the new family you built with the other.
This kind of deception is not forced by the environment, it is involuntary; all environments are ultimately shaped by individuals. Comrade and straight daughter cheat marriage, the so-called compromise to the environment is nothing but a compromise to the ugly selfishness in human nature.
I hope that all the beautiful girls in the world will not become the victims that scumbags use to satisfy their selfishness.

[Coming out of the closet is not as serious as you think]
In the film, the male protagonist Frankie tries to come out twice.
One time, I tentatively asked my girlfriend how she felt about the intimacy between two boys. Frankie changed the subject after his girlfriend downplayed that it was gay. Another time, when Frankie was chatting with friends, he told his mates about his experience of going to gay websites and having sex with men, but he made up a lie: just to get marijuana.
Neither his girlfriend, his mother, nor even his friends showed discrimination against the gay community.
But Frankie couldn't get out of his heart and lacked the courage to admit himself.
His girlfriend took a photo of a standard couple on ins with him. He cooperated expressionlessly, thinking in his heart: I can make a business with my mother. At the end of the film, he and several accomplices trick other gays into robbing their belongings to show their stance on the heterosexual camp.
It's a pity that the body is more honest than anything. Frankie is addicted to gay sites again.
Frankie is lonely. It doesn't matter whether this loneliness is in adolescence or not. This loneliness stems from the opposition between inner desire and realistic choice. The sense of tearing created by this opposition makes the male protagonist do nothing all day, with a soulless body on his back, and spend long days like a walking corpse.
When Japanese-American scholar Kenji Yoshino was considering whether he came out or not, one of his teachers said to him: "Your greatest gift is that you can face yourself."
A person can feel the meaning of his existence only by following his own nature.
If we don't understand the meaning of our existence, we can only wander like machines; if we want to change but cannot see the light, we can't move an inch in the dark.
If we have the right to be a certain kind of person, then I believe, logically and morally, there must be a right to say who we are.
For me, homosexuality can only go from a state to a life when I get over the demands of cover-up. Only then can I truly own my emotions, my politics, my love.
When it comes to coming out of the closet, Che Che has always been the kind of style that does not publicize that he is gay, but also does not deliberately conceal his sexual orientation.
Entered the society and made a friend K, who is handsome and excellent.
In the previous process of starting a business and grabbing resources, K was the only friend who could put Cheche's interests before his own.
One of our mutual female friends advised me many times not to confess my gay identity to K, thinking that K's kind of straight steel man could not accept it.
I made a public account not long ago, one night.
Che: I am writing an article on the official account.
K: What is the official account, let me see.
Che: Do you want to see? So you have to be mentally prepared? I want to tell you something.
K: What?
Che: I like boys.
K: Just kidding?
Che: Is this kind of question a joke?
K: Do uncles and aunts know? Have you seen a psychiatrist?
Che: I almost know, you need to see a doctor for this kind of problem?
K: Cheche, I'm very moved, thank you for telling me.
Che: Oh
K: Really moved. I won't tell anyone, and neither will my girlfriend.
That's how I came out with him.
In the next few months, he would still take the initiative to call me to discuss work and relationship matters with me.
He also said: "Che, I have been reading your official account articles. How should I put it, you are the first comrade I have contacted with, but I am proud of you, because reading your articles, I found out that you have a lot to do with your self-identity. The recognition is very high.”
Easter egg: There is not only the male protagonist in the deep cabinet in the movie, but who else should you go to the movie to find.
Recommend another deep cabinet movie: I have money and face, and I have abused myself for ten years
