Watching the movie "Glass Castle", a family that moved around to hide from debt, a couple who lived as they wished, a mother who was passionate about painting but had no success, a father who ignored the family when he was drinking, and four children who often couldn't eat. Building a glass castle is a sober father's dream to his children, and a drunken father smashes this dream again and again. Until one day, the second daughter woke up and could only leave the house on her own. The children began to work hard to live their own lives, saving enough money to escape their families one by one and start their own lives. The father is the victim of his own family of origin, but why are the children lucky enough to escape the tragedy of the family of origin and not fall because of such childhood? When a father is awake, he gives his children dreams, takes them to do unusual things, makes them feel different and has confidence in that uniqueness. When his daughter was burned with ugly scars, he told the child that it proved that she was different. As someone who has been reborn from ashes, he was destined to do extraordinary things, and these scars were the evidence. Bits of dreams and self-confidence made the children finally bravely escape from home. As the father was dying, the children finally forgave him, because the children found that it was also him who sowed the seeds of courage and confidence for their escape.

The Glass Castle quotes

  • Jeannette: [sighs] My parents are squatting in an abandoned building on the Lower East Side.

    David: Jeanette...

Jeannette: They were homeless before that for three years before that, which was pretty much how they raised us. My dad is not developing a technology for bituminous coal but he could tell you anything you want to know about it. He is the smartest man I know. He is also a drunk.

    [inhales]

Jeannette: never finishes what he starts and can be extremely cruel. But he dreams bigger than anyone I've ever met. And he never tries to be somebody that he's not. He never wanted me to either.

    [Exhales]

Jeannette: I'm sorry, but I have to leave.

    David: Go.

  • Jeannette: You did all this for me?

Rex: Since when is it wrong for a father to take care of his little girl?
