Musical films can't be just songs and dances

It can be described as Astaire's light-hearted joke about his swing dance career. The pity is that the story is loose, lacking a major conflict, and lacking a climax that pushes the focal character to a dead end. The hero and heroine's resolution of the differences in dance forms is so easy that it even overlooks its eventual dilemma. The piano skills that Oscar Levant showed in "An American in Paris" didn't stand a chance either. A talented production team, instinct is the guarantee that the film goes from qualified to outstanding, but the story structure that seems to be half-boiled actually makes it look like an iceberg, with only 1/8 of the talent exposed.
