The "Birdman" I want to talk about is the one directed by Alan Parker and starring Nicolas Cage in 1984. Human beings seem to have an innate longing for flying. Therefore, humans invented the airplane. But there are always people who want to grow wings. Such as Victoria's Secret models. Like Birdman. Birdman's wings are not for the catwalk, he yearns for flying, the freedom of the soul. Birdman went to catch pigeons, make wings, and raise birds. He tried to fly again and again, but finally turned into free fall. But the third time, he abandoned his body and his soul flew. Cage plays Birdman's best friend. Contrary to Birdman, Cage pays attention to appearance, likes to pick up girls, and likes to make money. The two have different interests, but the same situation. They are all bound by family, environment, society. They all want to break free. They go together. They have come the same way. Not long after the film begins, Cage walks into the mental hospital where Birdman is being held, trying to wake Birdman with his past memories. The story is intertwined in reality and memory. Birdman gradually wakes up, but does not want to communicate with others, but Cage is getting more and more anxious in the ward. The director uses many obvious symbols, like a confiscated baseball, a waterfowl surrounded by poisonous snakes, a wild dog being hunted indiscriminately, a flock of birds destroyed by war artillery fire, and a mental hospital with a tight cage. The director is constantly telling us with stories and pictures that the body is precious, but the soul is more valuable. If it is freedom, the body can be thrown away. Cage and Birdman are like two sides of a coin, they symbolize a person's body and soul. But in the face of war, both are easily destroyed. They were all destroyed by war what they were proud of. Cage is his handsome appearance. Birdman is his spiritual world. At the end of the film, Cage and Birdman wanted to break through the cage of the mental hospital, they rushed to the rooftop, and Birdman jumped. How well the story ends here, giving people unlimited thinking. But the film did not end, Cage shouted and rushed over to find that Birdman landed safely on the next platform. what's next? It is said that this is a castrated ending because some people want a happy ending. The director made a film that wanted to seek freedom, but lost his freedom of creation. What a sad and ironic ending.
