There are two themes in the film, the first one is very clear. "Ming great love, Purdue all sentient beings", this is the Buddhist thought. The second theme is more obscure, that is, "the struggle between Buddhism and Taoism". This theme is no longer reflected in the film from beginning to end.
From the beginning of the film, a "sacred stick" Taoist deceives fishermen to two male and female Taoists in Gaojiazhuang, and then to the end of the film, Sun Wukong cleans up three Taoist exorcists who make soy sauce. All the while implying "the struggle between Buddhism and Taoism". But basically it is "praise Buddha and degrade Tao". But this is also in line with the original Journey to the West. Of course, devaluing one is no doubt in order to highlight the other.
