Jackie Chan has not yet been recognized by the Hong Kong Film Awards, and he has even won the Oscar Lifetime Achievement Award. As a Hong Kong actor, it is somewhat regrettable.
As a commercial director, he is undoubtedly very successful. The Hong Kong film industry has not known how many miracles have been born because of him, but when he really needs some artistic realm, some of his shortcomings, which should be called weaknesses, will be revealed bluntly.
Just like the theme of this movie, the scars of a war, there is not much dialogue in the whole movie to describe the war, but it is just a joke. Or reflections on war, as long as a few words are much more powerful than the sentence "It turns out that people don't know what they want." This movie may be upgraded to a level!
Or you would say that Jackie Chan movies are like that! Or we are used to it, this legend should have been more legendary. Jackie Chan's films are deeply rooted in people's hearts, but it may not be a good thing for a filmmaker to be deeply rooted in people's hearts.
I think Jackie Chan has always lacked a director Bole who added philosophy to his action scenes, or was it also influenced by the general environment of Hong Kong movies at that time, how many stereotyped kung fu comedies did he shoot? We have gone from anticipation to habit, to the situation where we love to see or not. It can also be called Jackie Chan-style regret.
To me, Jackie Chan's movies are not worth it to say that I like them, but it would be too cold-blooded to say that I don't like them. I was really shocked and happy in his movies. It's undeniable. Those thrilling actions are funny. The expressive power of Hong Kong is the only one in Hong Kong!
In fact, my ultimate selfish wish is for Wong Kar Wai and Jackie Chan to have a meeting, both literary and artistic, but it is unlikely that it will be realized.
