Cracked Memory is an action movie directed by Chinese Hollywood director John Woo and starring Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman, Aaron Eckhart, Colm Feir, and Kathryn Morris. The film focuses on engineer Jennings (Ben Affleck) is a high-tech genius. He was repeatedly hired for various projects and was paid handsomely, but in order to maintain a high degree of secrecy, the condition was that he had to have his short-term memory deleted from his brain after completion. This time Jennings's task has reached a sky-high price, and he must spend up to several years to devote himself to the development of this new product. When the product was finished, something unexpected happened. Jennings didn't get the promised payment, and was replaced by an envelope with a statement that he voluntarily waived the payment. Jennings was astonished, but when he tried to find out, he found that the trouble was getting bigger and bigger. Both the FBI and the company's bosses were chasing him and putting him to death. This series of mysterious events made Jennings believe that there must be an unknown truth behind it. Sure enough, a careful conspiracy gradually surfaced with his investigation.
The film won the 30th Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film, Best Science, and Key Art Awards.
There is a lot of debate online about this "bug" plot. I also read a lot of comments. I don't think a genius engineer wants an $80 million remuneration for his reasons. The first is that he saw the future with a machine, and found that his invention would bring catastrophe, and only destroying it can save the world. He found that the company would go bankrupt, so he chose not to stock the company. Then in order to save the world and save his life, he watched the time machine again and again, prepared 19 props, and then added another prop, which was a lottery ticket worth 90 million US dollars.
This story of an engineer saving the world is interesting and worth watching.
