A wall separates life and death.

It may be the war movie with the most frequent fucks I've ever seen, or it may be the war movie with the fewest actors and the fewest props I've ever seen.

There are only two American soldiers in the whole film, and a mysterious Iraqi sniper who only has a voice but never shows up. To be precise, it was more like a one-man show of an American sniper observer who was shot in the right knee and hid behind a stone wall.

Think of the movie "Dunkirk", which depicts the retreat from the perspective of the British and French Allied forces, without even a single German face appearing throughout the process.

This film also does not have the fierce gunfights in traditional war movies, nor the bloody scenes of snipers shooting one by one, only the tension and fear of the American observers facing the unknown. Lively made a sniper-themed movie with a sense of suspense and horror.

A wall separates life and death.

As a real sniper, you must not only have extraordinary military qualities, but also incomparable patience and a cunning mind.

And the battle between snipers is much more forbearance and cruelty than the battle of hand-to-hand combat.

Like this Iraqi sniper who has been hiding in the garbage for days. During the 20 hours that the American sniper team lurked, they remained silent even if they could be heard talking; after trapping the two, they tried to spoof each other's location and information by radio.

In this way, it has been patiently lurking, waiting for flaws; then communicate with opponents and obtain information. Finally, use the information obtained and the identity of the dead to attract more enemies to come to die.

And in the final choice of suspended animation and other observers are carried by teammates on the plane to take off before shooting.

Because there is no relevant military literacy, I can't see the bug of the wrong type of helicopter that came to support last as pointed out in other film reviews, and I didn't even notice the small slot that the US radio station did not encrypt.

I only feel that there are some violations in three places. One is that the weather is so windy and blowing sand that you can point where to fight at a distance of 1,500 meters; the second is why no teammates search the garbage dump; the third is that the American helicopter was actually killed. Are there two?

No wonder I think this movie is very good but the rating is so low, mainly because everyone's observation and thinking ability and military quality are too high.

However, as a melon-eating audience, five-star recommendation, just be happy.

The Wall quotes

  • [first lines]

Matthews: [sighting through his scope from a bush] Nothin'. Hit n' run. Whoever it was they're gone. War's over, he got the memo.

    [sighs]

    Matthews: Ize?

    [bird squawking]

    Matthews: Allen? Ize!

    Isaac: [on his radio] What?

Matthews: We got no movement, not a sign of a shadow... How long we been here, man? 18, plus?

    Isaac: 20.

Matthews: [sighs] Jesus. There's nobody fuckin' out there, man.

    Isaac: Less he's a pro.

    Matthews: A Haji?

    Isaac: I'm just saying, maybe.

  • Juba: You Americans. You think you know it all. You think it's simple. That I am your enemy. But we are not so different, you and I.

Isaac: Yeah, 'cept I ain't a fuckin' terrorist.

Juba: And you think I am? You are the one who has come to another man's country. Camouflaged yourself in his land, in his soil. From where I'm sitting, *you* look very much like the terrorist.
