Be brave and loyal

Could this film be considered another antihero? Johnny does not have the bright, powerful, and fighting characteristics of traditional heroes, but he is in a trance most of the time; besides his wife, he lacks the supportive companions around traditional heroes. On the contrary, most people either want to abandon him, or want to betray him. But combined with the time background of the story, everything seems to transcend tradition, reflecting the reality of the lack of support for the IRA in the process of fighting for its own goals.

A feast of picture technology, British films, because of their unique status, can widely absorb the technical characteristics of Europe and the United States. The film combines Impressionism, Expressionism, montage, excellent European scheduling, and traditional Hollywood editing techniques. The picture shows strong contrast between light and dark, and the composition Sophisticated.

The soundtrack and sound effects are outstanding. According to the needs of the plot, certain sounds will be deliberately highlighted, such as the barking of dogs and the rubbing of the iron cover of the trash can on the ground. Certain sounds are also deliberately blocked. For example, when Catherine left the church to avoid the sheriff, she blocked the sound of the door closing.

For now, the film's story remains relevant, and the conflict between the IRA and the English government continues in modern times.

Another noir film by Carol Reed, although not as famous as "The Third Man", it is still a wonderful film. The plot is relatively simple, a story of escape, but through this doomed escape, it reflects the human situation. Since I was too lazy to download it, I watched it directly online, but the video was actually flowery, which made people uncomfortable, but I still watched it, and the music at the end sounded a bit familiar.

4.5 Stars. A great piece of Noir, the so-called Odd Man is really an anti-hero character, powerless and tragic all the way to the end. The love scene at the end is tragic.

  • Lukey: [about painting a portrait of the wounded Johnny McQueen] There's something to be said about him before he dies.

Tober: And about all of us.

Lukey: I understand what I see in him.

    Tober: What is it?

Lukey: It's the truth about us all.

    Tober: Is that all?

    Lukey: He's doomed.

    Tober: So are we all.
