Minions and the Despicable Me series
About 10 years ago, American animation company Illumination Entertainment was working on their debut feature Despicable Me (aka Despicable Me), an iconoclastic cartoon about "bad guys". During the production of the film, Pierre Coffin, one of the two directors of the film (I believe this must be a banana lover), had an idea that he thought would boost the commercial potential of the film - to design an original And a very cute "cute thing". At first, the character's shape was unlovable and even scary (see "Despicable Me" behind-the-scenes concept), but after several redesigns, Pierre Coffin finally believed that he had designed an image that he was satisfied with. And named these imaginations with the word servant and subordinate (minion) in English, they are now known to the world audience as "minions".
Unsurprisingly, the promotion of "Despicable Me 3" once again used the Minions as the signboard, not only made them appear repeatedly in the trailer, but also tried their best to advertise with various brands in the image of Minions. It made many viewers directly say "go to see the minions" when they mentioned the film
So, when I watched this film and found that Minions only had less than ten minutes of scenes in the whole film (90 minutes), I felt speechless for a while from the bottom of my heart, but after thinking about it, I understood. The reason is actually very simple - the film party has no other promotional strategies.
The biggest highlight of the first "Despicable Me" is the novel story it tells about the thief's perception of family affection, but the audience's love for the Minions is far beyond the imagination of Lighting Entertainment, so in the second part, it is given to the little man. The yellow people played a lot, and made them the focus of propaganda. The astronomical figure of the second film of 900 million US dollars made Lighting Entertainment more convinced that it has an inexhaustible cash cow, so in 2015, it launched "Minions with Big Eyes", which reached 1.1 billion at the box office. Inside set off an inextinguishable minion frenzy. However, the success of this series has also put the series "Despicable Me" into an extremely embarrassing situation.
Gru, the protagonist who was originally the protagonist, and his three "daughters" have become the foils of the Minions. The reason why the reputation of the second "Despicable Me" is far inferior to the previous one is that the touching affection in the first part The elements, including the freshness of the anti-type, have all disappeared, leaving only the Minions selling cute. In this context, I think "Despicable Me 3" can be regarded as an attempt by Lighting Entertainment to return to the first line and balance the relationship between a good story and the Minions.
However, it was a very unsuccessful attempt.
The screenwriting team of this film is only one less than the first (the trio becomes a duo), but the effect is completely different. Compared with the first one that tells a simple but interesting story, the "ambition" of this film is not small. There are several plot lines in the 90-minute film, but each one is superficial. Makes the story scattered to the point of non-existence, and nothing new. (I literally guessed all the plot points while watching this film, a lot.)
The most terrible thing is that this film has nothing to do with the title Despicable Me (Despicable Me), and it might as well be renamed "A man who longs for despicableness in his heart but realizes that he has a wife and children to work to support his family, so it is really despicable. I got up" (okay, I'll admit it might be a little long for this movie title). When Grudu, who was so handsome in the first film, has fallen to such a point, what is the meaning of this series? Those who wanted to see a good story were disappointed, but what about the audience who wanted to see Minions? Wouldn't they be outraged when they found out that Minions had only so much drama?
The final conclusion is quite emotional, it is the Minions who have made this series brilliant, and also caused it to be completely mediocre.
