new wave comfort

Director John Carney is a geek who has always used his musical talent to whitewash film talent. The folk songs he wrote didn't impress me before, and I didn't like his first two works, "Once" and "Go Again." "Meet You in New York". This time, he extended his tentacles to the new wave of the 1980s, which directly touched my heartstrings. The original songs of the film and those classic old songs were perfectly blended, which made people unable to stop being excited. The narrative is still relatively straightforward, and the story is not too new, but the portrayal of the heroine and the male supporting role is very successful, so even if the whole film has an unreal idealization, it does not reduce the perception.

After watching it, the whole person's mood brightened up. After sitting in the theater and listening to all the songs at the end of the movie, I was full of youthfulness and it would be nice if I could understand a few more lines of lyrics. The fantasy dance is great! I like the work of the second female protagonist crying, it is called Up! PS: Actually, it seems that I prefer the male creative partner who wears glasses to the female protagonist.

Talking about love and life through music, the subject matter is not novel, the play and music are quite fresh and moving, and the performances of the unqualified extras are extremely wonderful.

Sing Street quotes

  • Eamon: So how do you mean you're "happy-sad"?

Darren: Yeah, how're we supposed to market that?

Conor: It means we're not pop anymore.

Eamon: We were pop? Listen, I'm happy being anything. I just want to play music.

Conor: That's fine. Be who you are, Eamon.

    Eamon: Well, I don't know who I am. Maybe I'm happy-sad, too. I don't know.

  • Darren: What does "happy-sad" even mean? How can we be both things? It makes no sense.

Conor: It means that I'm stuck in this shithole full of morons and rapists and bullies, and I'm gonna deal with it, okay? It's just how life is. I'm gonna try and accept it and get on with it, and make some art.

Eamon: So how does that affect our music?

    Conor: Positively.
