How to say it, apparently the drug epidemic in the 1960s and 1970s terrified the US imperialists. This realistic-style film expresses America's determination to fight drugs at home. The United States is a country that advocates order, and believes that order is always more correct than chaos. This mentality makes the US government involuntarily participate in many evils. Although this monopoly crime method has secured the interests of the white American class in the short term, in the end history has punished Americans. Such as Pearl Harbor, such as 911, such as continuous shooting incidents.

Since it is called the French drug network, the story naturally starts from Marseille, France. A well-dressed French gentleman, Shahny, sat in his luxury car. However, he did not notice the stalking behind him. He was planning a big business to ship a shipment from Europe to the United States. Unfortunately, the spy was soon discovered by the gang and silenced. It is not difficult to see that the local mafia forces in France are quite powerful.

The camera cuts back to the United States, in a chaotic black bar in Brooklyn, New York. Drug cops Doyle and Buddy are on the hunt for a black drug dealer. Because of the long-term fatigue of work, both of them were a little violent when dealing with prisoners. Of course, you can't blame them, after all, the opponents they face are some vicious thugs. After a day's work, the two decided to go for a drink. Coincidentally, they met another Italian drug lord Sal in the bar. Doyle, who is eager to prove his ability, works day and night, hoping to find drugs and wash away the shame he once had.

Sal, an Italian, runs a grocery store with his wife Angie in a certain neighborhood in New York. But Doyle, who seems to have opened the perspective of God, directly believes that this person is going to start drug trafficking recently. And with this speculation, he began to lobby his superiors to help arrange monitoring. After listening to Doyle and Buddy's analysis of the case, the superiors refused their request without hesitation. After all, there is no basis and no evidence, and he cannot be listed as a suspect because he has a criminal record and begins to examine. After all, it is a democratic country, and this taxpayer's money cannot be used blindly.

The helpless Doyle could only use one of his subordinates' eyeliners. After some serious performance, the two successfully connected their heads. Doyle got the news that there will be a large shipment of drugs from Europe to New York recently, but the specific delivery method and delivery method are unknown. The two reported the situation to the leader again. And judging this Thrall, has a major suspicion. The leaders at this time felt that the plan was feasible and agreed to monitor Thrall.

The French actor Debro, who is in desperate need of money, reached an agreement with the drug lord Shakhni, agreeing to help him take advantage of his opportunity to go to the United States to film a movie to deliver the drugs. Doyle and Rudy on the other side began to monitor the Italians, and their hard work was not in vain. The two peeled off the silk and found the flaw in Thrall, which led to the French drug lord Shahni. Shahny and the Italian meet at a fancy restaurant, but their business isn't going well for the two of them. Because New York's drug lords feel the wind is too tight lately for a big deal. It was hoped that it could be postponed, but the French drug lord hoped that the deal could be resolved as soon as possible and returned to France. The two who failed in the negotiations had to part ways. Doyle and Buddy decide to split up, with Doyle following the French and Buddy continuing to follow the Italian.

The old-fashioned Shakhni soon found Doyle's stalking and got rid of him with a little trick. Doyle was very angry about this, and vowed to take the gang of drug lords and get them. But his boss, again patient with their aimless ramblings, decided to call off the investigation. Unexpectedly, the French sent a killer to assassinate Doyle at this time, and Doyle and the killer launched a fierce battle and chase. The mysterious killer destroys all the way, first killing a marshal on the subway, and then killing the train driver, resulting in a subway accident. Doyle performed for us, a fancy car chasing the subway racing scene. In the end, our heroic drug cop Doyle killed the mysterious killer. After this incident, the superior, who was about to give up, became interested in it again. However, such an old French drug lord, for some unknown reason, chose to assassinate Doyle in an unfamiliar place. Not to say that there is no success, but also to be caught.

The French, who can't wait more and more, urged Sal to complete the transaction as soon as possible. In desperation, Thrall had to first drive the car full of heroin back and find a secluded place to stop. Doyle and Buddy followed, and waited for the connector to appear. The connector did not wait, but caught a group of car thieves. In desperation, they had to tow the car back to the police station first. It turned out that the owner of the car was the French star Debro. They put drugs on Debro's car and used it to be a star. After passing the customs security check, the goods were successfully transported to New York. DeBro was soon at the police station, looking for his impounded car. Although Doyle knew the drug might be in the car, he had been unable to find it. Just when there was no way out, Buddy found a loophole, and they finally mastered the location of the drugs. So the car was repaired and returned to the French male star. Get ready to put a long line and catch big fish.

It didn't take long for Shakhni to find Debro, hoping that he could help complete the deal as previously agreed. But De Bro had a hunch that he had been targeted by the police, and he didn't want to get involved in this hot business too much. In desperation, the French drug lord had no choice but to complete the transaction himself. However, their every move has long been under the surveillance of the American police. Just as they were finishing the final settlement, the police stormed in. But the group of drug lords were unwilling to be captured, so a fierce gunfight broke out between the two sides. The Italian Sal was the first to be shot dead. Some reckless Doyle also accidentally killed one of his own people, but unfortunately the old French drug lord Shakhni finally escaped from the chaos. Debro, on the other hand, was imprisoned for helping to smuggle drugs.

The entire film is actually quite stream-of-consciousness. But it is indeed very realistic, it truly restores the hardships of the anti-drug police, and also expresses the cruelty of the drug lords. In the 1960s, along with various ideological movements, the proliferation of drugs in the United States accelerated. This not only makes the drug lord quickly become a huge force in the underworld. It also has an indelible impact on the physical and mental health of young people. The film expresses the infiltration of underworld forces into the cultural and entertainment industry at that time through the setting of such characters as French movie stars. Cases of star drug use are not uncommon not only in the United States, but even all over the world.

I believe that this film is a true portrayal of the vicious drug lord and the police with a full sense of justice. As a result, the judges were moved, and those who hoped for more were moved to stand up to stop the mainstream voice of drugs. Combining these, this film won the best Oscar that year, and it is not enough. Finally, I have to say that the relationship between the United States and France at that time was indeed not very satisfactory. Especially in the Fifth Republic of France, under the leadership of President Charles de Gaulle, France withdrew from NATO and hoped to become a family of its own to resist the infiltration of the United States in all aspects. So here, it is not surprising that Americans black a bunch of arrogant French.

The French Connection quotes

  • Jimmy 'Popeye' Doyle: All right! You put a shiv in my partner. You know what that means? Goddammit! All winter long I got to listen to him gripe about his bowling scores. Now I'm gonna bust your ass for those three bags and I'm gonna nail you for picking your feet in Poughkeepsie.

    [a few scenes later:]

Walt Simonson: Popeye. You still picking your feet in Poughkeepsie?

  • Jimmy 'Popeye' Doyle: All right, Popeye's here! Get your hands on your heads, get off the bar, and get on the wall!
