We always have to be pushed to grow up, or never grow up

On the way of growth, in the process of true inner transformation, the words and things of those people affected Justin. From the beginning of thinking that I have a problem, to taking medicine and starting to walk, everyone thinks that Justin is good, then to self-doubt that is good, and then out of control, to the final transformation and rebirth to find the real self and embark on the road of real growth . This journey is like being lost in the ocean, passing through a storm, and finally seeing the coastline.
It is rare to meet those people, those ideas, and those teachings on the road of life. Chinese people like to talk about big truths and the philosophy of social survival, but what about the inner existence of the individual? It is always understatement and insignificant, so we Chinese always feel that we are not grown up, and we always feel that life is boring.
Justin is lucky because of his mother's story, his father's story, his brother's story, the dentist's guidance, and the advice of the debate team teacher. There are people everywhere to help him explore his state, which can finally make him run happily on Fifth Avenue in New York. But what about us? Like abandoned children, we are never told how to deal with these things, how to deal with them. It is always up to us to experience it ourselves, and see how the outcome will look at creation. How many people around are a person who clearly knows the meaning of their existence, the meaning of life, and what beauty they yearn for, and it is rare to think about it.
We are pushed into this society, this complex society, the survivors are also pushed into the people, which makes our society more complex. Think about all kinds of problems in the current society, all kinds of people. How incredible, unbelievable. But this society will never guide us, ignorant and confused little lambs, how to call growth and maturity.
Different people and different ages have a definition of maturity, but so what, we are still immature inside, we just pretend to be mature people and imitate maturity. This kind of imitation has caused many people to live in confusion for more than ten years, or their whole life. Imitation allows us to never face the problem, just follow the choice of the imitation object. But what about our hearts? ? What do you want, what do you want?
Whether your life is good or not, whether the meaning of existence brings you happiness, and what kind of motivation gives you the courage to live. To quote a living and profound person: If there is no longer something infinite, profound and real in life, I will no longer be attached to the world. ----Vincent Willem van Gogh

  • [Justin lays back in the dentist chair talking to Dr. Perry]

Dr. Perry Lyman: Justin, do they teach you about the subconscious at school?

    Justin Cobb: A little.

Dr. Perry Lyman: Ever heard of subconscious pressure? Involuntary behaviors?

Justin Cobb: Like a serial killer.

Dr. Perry Lyman: Perhaps. Justin, all of us carry a certain weight. A weight we don't recognize. Some of us have heavy loads.

    Justin Cobb: In our minds.

Dr. Perry Lyman: Yeah. A force from inside. We don't know it's name but it makes us do things. Things we don't like to admit.

  • [Justin draws while his little brother Joel bothers him with questions about girls]

Joel Cobb: You never even had a girlfriend.

    Justin Cobb: So what?

Joel Cobb: You don't even hang out with girls. You just, like, hang out with your nerdy friends.

Justin Cobb: No, I - I do hang out with girls.

Joel Cobb: Really? But how come you never bring any over here? Or I never, like, see you walking with any, or anything? I just see you walking by yourself.

Justin Cobb: Why do you care, Joel?

Joel Cobb: I don't know. 'Cause I'm bored. All the guys in your grade have probably fucked girls. You haven't even kissed one.

    Justin Cobb: Leave.

    Joel Cobb: No.
