inner handcuffs

Between giants like "It" and "The Dark Tower," "The Game of Gerald" itself is unremarkable. Coupled with the successive release of the two adaptation films, each of which has aroused heated discussions (although the praise and criticism are different), an online film produced by Netflix seems to be uncompetitive.

However, it allowed me to see the level of Netflix. I think Kim will probably applaud this movie as well. The story is very cult: Jesse and Jerrod go to the cottage exclusively and play a game of handcuffs, while Jesse is handcuffed, Jerrod suffers a heart attack, and Jesse is in handcuffs, a wild dog (called in the hallucinations) Under the threat of Kuqiu the Rabid Dog) and the Moonlight Man with the "Bone Bag", the idea escapes.

Looking at the story alone, getting out of the handcuffs may be simply scary, bloody, and visual damage. But Kim wouldn't be content with just writing a bloody, gruff story. It is true that he is good at description. The filmmakers Palma and Kubrick have captured the madness of Carrie and Jack; what is more difficult to grasp is the deep description of psychology.

Hungry and thirsty, Jesse hallucinates in fear as he is handcuffed: talking to an imaginary Gerald, himself, and his own father. In addition to the superficial handcuffs, there are two other layers of handcuffs: one is that the "bond" of marriage becomes "bandage", and the so-called bond becomes a shackle. She is deeply troubled by her unfortunate marriage with Gerald, and she cannot get rid of it; It can be traced back to the eclipse, when she was harassed by her father, silenced for this, and the family became increasingly unhappy. When he broke free from the handcuffs at the head of the bed, he was also breaking free from the shackles in his heart; reading Andy escaped from prison all the way, there was a kind of inner shock, and when he saw Jesse breaking the handcuffs and overcoming his inner demons, I felt the same way.

At the end of the confrontation with the Moonlight Man in court, the fantasy and reality of both sides interacted. Jesse faced the fear under the dark sun, no longer feared, and was truly redeemed at the end, and went to a new day.

I accidentally read Haruki Murakami's commentary on King's short article, and one sentence is quite accurate. "The essence of fear in Stephen King's mind, in a word, is that the characters in Stephen King's novels are afraid of the shadow of despair. On the one hand, seek a life that will be saved under temporary values." Probably the most succinct summary of "Jay".
