strong self-reflection

This film has a strong sense of self-innuendo from the director, and it should be Polanski's own experience to expose the social status quo of this "others are hell". As a foreigner from Poland, the male protagonist in the film encountered many unexpected indifferences and ridicules in Paris, suffered setbacks in both love and life, and gradually fell into the abyss of persecution and paranoia.

Polanski seems to want to use this film to complain about the unfair treatment he suffered in the film circle after he went into exile in France. Does the male protagonist suffer from delusions himself, or is he a normal person who suffers from delusions only when he is stimulated in this special environment? There is a lack of clarity in the film.

In addition to the first-class suspenseful and thrilling atmosphere, Polanski's performance is also a highlight. The seductive shape of the transvestite is really eye-catching! The most disappointing is Adjani, there are only three scenes in total (the last one is not counted), the promotion of the film is too tricky, and it is estimated that she wants to use her fame to open up the market.

The Stranger Tragedy: "noble" old landlord, nasty concierge (Shelly Winters!!! Even dogs are fierce XD), weird neighbors, domineering coworkers (playing loud French music, ignoring neighbors and even protagonists Situation), the protagonist's sexual repression, and eventually even Adjani is not trusted, others watch the protagonist jump off the building from hell. (Meaning that Polanski played himself?)

It is really good-looking, the power of the image, the classic of psychological thriller. Cry in Cold Blood is concerned with the spirit of the individual, Rosemary is concerned with religion, and The Tenants is concerned with social meaning. Human relationships lead to alienation. Several of the hallucinations are classics for their creativity (the ball becomes the head, the tenants become the audience).
