1. Sci-fi creativity is good. "When we can RPG on death row" "The problem of consciousness dominance in RPG" "When humans lose control of their own bodies (similar creative genre is The Matrix)".

2. The art and visual effects are very special. Many sci-fi movies use completely new creations to express unreality, such as "Avatar". But all the visual elements of "Escape from Heaven and Earth" are "existing", only through color (high saturation, good use of contrasting colors) and editing (camera flicker and screen jump) to create a sense of non-reality. This is a movie with a very strong artistic presence.

3. The story is confusing. This is a deduction item, and the reduction is very severe.

①The concept is unclear. The sci-fi concept in 1 is not explained clearly. For example, the "self-consciousness" of the male and female protagonists has not been explained clearly. If they have/don't have control of their own bodies, what are the causes and consequences? What is the control method and purpose of BOSS? What happened to the male protagonist's teammates? There is no clear message...

②There are too many branches in the main line of the story, and there is no centralized expression. For example, the male protagonist and the male protagonist's controller have mixed functions. The main line is "the male protagonist escapes and exposes the conspiracy of the BOSS", but it should be because the creator of the problem of ① did not make it very clear, so it is difficult to concentrate the story line.

If it weren't for the conceptual freshness, this film would definitely die. It's a pity, because this story line (the male protagonist escaped and exposed the conspiracy of the BOSS) could have been very commercialized and could definitely achieve climaxes. And the protagonist is also easy to shape and attractive (everyone can easily form a sense of identity with the suffering hero).

Gamer quotes

  • Upgrade Guard: Who aims?

    Kable: What?

Upgrade Guard: Who aims? The player or the slayer?

Kable: I'm the hand. Someone, somewhere else is the eye.

Upgrade Guard: That's tripped out, man.

Kable: Sometimes, they take over completely. Move you around like a robot. But that don't work so good.

    Upgrade Guard: Why not?

    Kable: The delay.

Upgrade Guard: Right, the "ping," they talk about that. The time it takes for the Slayer to respond to the player's commands.

Kable: Whatever they call it, when you're in the game, a slice of a second is the difference between living and dying. When that trigger pulls... it's just me.

  • Hackman: [singing] I've got no strings, so I have fun. I'm not tied up to anyone. They got strings, but you can see, there are no strings on me.
