New Les Miserables

I just watched it for the halo of the famous book. If I was still young, then maybe my understanding of the movie could only go to the level of the story.

A pile of stolen silverware changed the rest of a prisoner's life. The kind old man chose to trust Jean Valjean twice, and this trust finally fulfilled a man who wanted to take revenge on society.

The contradiction of the whole story is that Jean Valjean wants to be a good person, but the police officer Javert always sticks to his past in his own position. From Fantine to the later Cosette, the police officer Javert is like Like a phantom everywhere, he followed Jean Valjean all the way.

But at the end of the film, the police officer Javert committed suicide and released Jean Valjean. I don't understand why I have to commit suicide in order to atone for my past mistakes. If I were Javert, I might still live shamelessly. After all, it's easier to live than to die.

The ending of the movie does not show the final ending of Jean Valjean, Cosette and Marius, but the ending in the book is that Jean Valjean grows old alone in loneliness. The reason is that Marius, a nobleman, heard about Jean Valjean. Arang's past experience, decided not to contact him anymore. This is the real miserable world, and the fixed class thinking is the saddest thing.

  • Javert: I've tried to live my life without breaking a single rule...

[takes Valjean's shackles off, pushes him to the ground and puts them on himself]

    Javert: You're free.
