Many times a seemingly simple word is just difficult to translate as a title. At present, the mainstream title of the film is "disconnected", which is easily reminiscent of "dropped" and "disconnected". The former refers to the disconnection of the network, which has something to do with the film, while the latter is undoubtedly just an abnormality, consciousness The physical state of cessation is too much. Moreover, line as a noun is slightly weaker in the meaning of connect. Or translated as "disconnected", if understood from an abstract point of view, it is correct. But the term is widely used to denote physical loss.
The film has four storylines that go hand in hand, but are connected very naturally. Cloud Atlas has more storylines, but it's a sci-fi format. This film is more like a "Tower of Babel"-style connection, only a little less dramatic and a little more realistic. Of course, it is also within the framework of a coincidence.
The characters from the four stories are all one-dimensional people. They seem to answer the call of "dehydration" in the chaotic era, and they seem to practice Occam's "if not necessary, no increase of the entity", cast aside many roles in the economy and society, fade many feelings, and almost become a Occupational symbols. Be it lawyers or detectives. Reporters are still employees, and these labels are as big as life. Humans are not machines, and the family that is most closely related to them gradually has problems. There are parent-child relationships, husband-wife relationships, and work relationships. In short, these emotional gaps are becoming more and more difficult to bridge, more and more tearing and pain. They naturally found sustenance as a painkiller, even if it was a brief pleasure, or a moment of anesthesia. But the dislocation will not be corrected naturally, contradictions erupt, and the four stories are entangled either overtly or covertly. He/they struggled with nothing to rely on, ups and downs in the unknown, and searched for the straw-like cause in the blurred night, repenting and reducing their guilt. Gradually, these characters who caused the incident to become alienated from the professional symbols involuntarily and with no other way, regained their original identities, and changed from things to people again. However, this is far from complete, the pain is still there, the scars are long-lasting, but they/they, soaked in blood and tears, are softer.
After being broken, we look forward to it together, break and stand.
PS In fact, it is not novel to pick out any single story, but the overlap creates a sense of richness, a kind of misunderstanding and powerlessness in real life, which gives this film a sense of kind of meaningful. It's like a few slow motions parallel to the end of the film. Frame by frame, it's all inevitable.
