This is To Qifeng's masterpiece going north. In the past, To Qifeng's film perspective often focused on the small place of Hong Kong. Facing the hot market in mainland China, To Qifeng had to compromise, but in terms of the effect of the film, To Qifeng still kept his originality very well. The style, the alienated electronic music, and the grim atmosphere are all well grasped. The final shootout can be described as tragic. Like "Very Sudden" and "Exile", the whole army was wiped out, and the shootout was a little less freehand and a little more real. Personally, what I admire the most is Du Qifeng's cool style of gunfighting. Recalling the heroic appearance of several large men's volleyball volleyball teams standing with guns in "Gunfire", I am still very excited!
Several supporting roles in the film give people a bright feeling. Whether it is Huang Yi or Zhong Hanliang, the most outstanding ones are Guo Tao and Li Jing. I guess Xiao Deang is the coldest character in Li Jing's life!
Regarding the ending of the film, it is very the main theme. This must be the result of To Qifeng's compromise. Although the police were wiped out, the bad guys got the punishment they deserved, and the ending was very odd. That year's "Underworld" (called "Dragon City Years" in the mainland) adopted a double ending. This is obviously a helpless way. Is the real ending like Gu Tianle's escape? This is unknown.
