Some thoughts on watching the first four episodes of Gypsy

The first time I watched an American drama, it was undoubtedly a Ji film, but after watching the first four episodes of "Gypsy", I was attracted by the role of Gene, the psychotherapist.

When I first saw the synopsis of the film, it told the story of Jean psychotherapist having a dangerously intimate relationship with her patient. From watching the first four episodes, I think there's a reason why Gene did it. First of all, as a psychotherapist, she was tired of listening to the stories of patients in the office every day, and she was tired of the work of treating Claire, who doubted Gene's work, and Gene felt like how to treat her. No progress has been made, so it can be said that Gene feels that the route of therapy through advice to patients is a bit unworkable, so she wants to try new treatments, remove herself as a psychotherapist, and pretend to be another person to get close people who relate to the patient and thereby develop the best treatment plan. Secondly, in addition to Gene's boredom with the work of psychotherapy, there is also the fact that Gene is a good wife and mother (although she does not want to do it herself), her husband Mike's work is very busy, he often gets off work very late, and the family affairs are basically Gene is responsible for all alone, cooking, taking her daughter Dolly to and from school, and so on. Gene felt powerless about such a life, but by pretending to be another person, she could bring even the slightest joy to life, so she chose to do so. Finally, at the beginning of the first episode, I met Sidney in a cafe. After having a conversation and getting along with Sidney once or twice, she felt that Sidney was very free, unfettered, and able to bravely "be herself". And she is just the opposite of Sidney. She is bound by work, family, unspoken rules and many other things. She lives in other people's world and cannot be as brave as Sidney to be herself. Gene is not only envious of Sidney, but also likes. In the author's opinion, maybe Sidney's character is the type that Gene likes. But considering that she is a person with a husband, children, and family, she decided to disguise herself as another person to approach Sidney and get to know Sidney.

The appearance of Sidney can be said to have awakened Gene's heart of daring to resist and fight.

After Sidney appeared, in addition to being disguised as another person - Diane, Gene continued to lie to family and friends, and felt powerless to tell lies, and there was a gradual resistance to work, family, and those unspoken rules in his heart. Gene gave me the feeling that she was living in an illusory beauty, and she kept lying to herself that her work was going well, her family was harmonious, and her friends and colleagues were getting along well. In a nutshell, she was deceiving herself. Then Sidney appeared and her daughter Dolly kissed the boy at school and told the boy that she was a boy. After the incident, she began to have some consciousness in her heart. In fact, she had always lived in an imaginary beauty. In fact, I have been deceiving myself all the time. But she tried to kill it, tried not to think about it, and in the end she used drugs frequently to numb her behavior. In fact, I think she was running away. Until Dolly was about to throw a party, Gene had a dream about Sidney the night before, and Sidney told her, "People think loneliness is actually the scariest thing in the world, and they're wrong, and it's worse to fool themselves." This sentence can really be said to be the fuse that awakened the heart of resistance and struggle in Gene's heart. Another fuse was that her daughter Dolly told Gene angrily, "The magician's tricks are deceiving. Mom, didn't you say that we should be honest?" Thinking about it, I taught my daughter to do this, but I live in someone else's world because of some unspoken social rules. It can be said that Gene's role is in sharp contrast to her daughter Dolly. Because Dolly is a child, she is much braver than her mother Gene, and dares to be herself. So when Gene heard Dolly's words, his consciousness rose to a new level. What directly detonated was that when the parents of Dolly's classmates were talking and commenting on Dolly, Gene broke out, and scolded the hypocritical faces and unspoken social rules that had been endured all the time. So I can say that, in addition to depicting the feelings of women, this work also criticizes the so-called "unspoken rules" and hypocritical society.

Then you can talk about Gene's husband, Mike, who is a member of the unspoken social rules. Gene's sentence "I won't be the same as you, I can't deceive myself forever" can be said to be completely enlightened. Gene also expressed his dissatisfaction with Mike by the way, saying that he doesn't understand this feeling at all, because he has been Gene has been doing everything at home since then, especially dealing with "that group of monsters" in Gene's mouth, which is actually her inner complaint. But in Mike's view, Gene's approach is vexatious. He didn't understand Gene's struggle against the unspoken rules of society, or rather. He didn't even know he was deceiving himself. So Mike's character is still pretty pathetic, his numbness is that he doesn't know he's kidding himself.

There is also the translation of the title of this American drama "Crossing the Boundary". In fact, I think this translation is very meaningful. I understand it as three meanings, the first is the story of Gene, a psychotherapist, pretending to be another person, Diane, to have a dangerously intimate relationship with her patient, so she crossed the line, the more The line of professional ethics; the second meaning is her struggle against this hypocritical society and the unspoken rules of society. She was originally within the limits and lived in a beautiful world. Ever since she dreamed of Sidney, she decided not to. The moment she deceived herself again, she crossed the line; the third meaning was her affair with Sidney.

Although I have only watched the first four episodes of "Gypsy", I can already say with confidence that it is a good movie! In fact, people like Jean have never been around us?

(If Xiaosheng's writing is not good, please give more advice~)
