The heroine is in a deep predicament, her father is missing, her mother is dead, and she has no financial resources. Only she and two younger siblings depended on each other. Everything looked so hopeless. Her world is just like the tone of the film, cold and dark. But I don't see the word "desperate" in her eyes, I see tenacity and independence. God is not fair. We are not born equal. Some are second-generation rich, some are second-generation poor; some were born in Beijing and Shanghai, and some were born in remote frontiers; some were born beautiful, smart and handsome, and some were born with disabilities and plain looks. But God is fair. Maybe we were born without a good family background. But inner peace and happiness are not absolutely proportional to wealth - how many rich people commit suicide by jumping off buildings, suffering from depression, and parents and children fighting over family property. And how many poor people are laughing and laughing, living comfortably and contentedly!
