Film review, The Circle

There are a lot of new movies that can be downloaded recently, and I am slowly sorting them out. It is expected that they will be updated gradually in the future. In a word, watch the films one by one, and write the reviews one by one.
Introduced today is a work co-starred by Emma Watson and Tom Hanks - The Circle (Chinese translation "circle"). The film is set in Circle, a large network technology company, and uses the perspective of the heroine Mae to tell the contradiction and opposition between "privacy protection" and "freedom and openness" in today's Internet age.

The film is adapted from the novel of the same name published by Dave Eggers in 2013. It has a "dystopian" flavor. The author uses delicate brushstrokes and modern language to raise a series of questions about "freedom", "privacy", "sharing". ", "Open", "Internet Threat Theory", etc., for readers to ponder. This time, James Ponsoldt adapted it into a movie, let's take a look at how good it is?

Frankly speaking, the overall feeling is average, rather disappointing. Next, analyze them one by one.
I. Actors
According to common sense, the protagonist has the most roles and should have the best acting skills. This work does the opposite, with Emma Watson's heroine Mae, who is dwarfed in terms of acting skills compared to the other supporting roles. There are two possibilities for personal pull testing to cause this phenomenon.
1. Defects in the actor's self-cultivation and strength. Emma, who became popular with the role of Hermione Granger in the "Harry Potter" series, did not show enough acting skills to convince the audience in the film. The expression of facial expressions, dialogue, and body movements are relatively average.
2. Role positioning. The director and the screenwriter seem to have a deviation in the positioning of the protagonist of Mae. The basic setting of Mae is twisted and contrived. The character is hot and cold, and inexplicably runs through the whole work, which makes people look confused.

II. Meaning - "protect privacy"? Or "shared life"?
The moral of this film is very fitting and full of contradictions. In the age of information explosion, how should people choose? Is it inclined to "privacy protection"? Or advocate "sharing information"?
This question is indeed difficult to choose. I believe that everyone has their own answer in their hearts.

1. The pros and cons of "privacy protection" (controlling proportions is the key) Pros
: respect for privacy is the most fundamental bottom line; it is a symbol of human rights and freedom; it is an inevitable product of the progress of the times.
Disadvantages: Excessive "privacy protection" will lead to estrangement and indifference between people; staying away from group life and clinging to individual life will lead to mental illness.
In short, mastering the "privacy protection" scale is the key.

2. The pros and cons of "sharing information"
: easy access to information, real-time viewing; maximum service for those who like live streaming.
Disadvantages: Force everyone to live in the spotlight; induce and stimulate human nature - voyeurism; information is too scattered and messy, which is easy to mislead people.
In short, everything has two sides, how to choose depends on your heart.

III.
There are many background scenes and story bridges that imply that the work has obvious "suggestion" intentions. For example, the highly open and free work space, the venue for the new product launch, some familiar polite words used by Bailey when introducing new products, and so on, all suggest the industry's bigwigs - super search engine google, social platform facebook , the leading technological innovation apple and so on.
What is the purpose of these "hints"? Implicitly revealing that tech giants cannot balance the relationship between "privacy protection" and "sharing information"; implicitly revealing the fact that some technology companies intend to disclose personal information (reminiscent of the "U.S. wiretap door" incident); On the one hand, some big bosses (companies) advocate the philosophy of "open and transparent life", and on the other hand, they desperately hide everything about themselves; they bluntly warn people to "learn to protect their rights and interests" and not be deceived.

IV. The plot is
scattered and broken. Although the underlying meaning of the work is very attractive, unfortunately, the final quality of the film is not satisfactory. why?
First, the story goes anticlimactic. The opening is very dazzling, and the theme is very thoughtful, but after the middle section, it begins to collapse, and the end is even more perfunctory, Mae "has been black."
Secondly, the elaboration of opposites and contradictory points is left in the form, and the content of the story goes around, full of gimmicks, but lacks practical thinking.
Finally, innuendo, if at odds. The film alludes to many of today's tech giants, and it's very obscure, and sometimes you need to rack your brains to guess.

Write at the end. This is a highly thoughtful film, but unfortunately, due to the lackluster script, character design, and layout, the work is disorganized and somewhat disappointing.

Director★☆☆☆☆(The director who can't tell the story, finally "blackened" Mae unexpectedly)
Actor★☆☆☆☆(Who is played by Tom Hanks, others are too ordinary)
Story★★☆☆☆( The idea is good, the finished product is too bad)
Visual effects ★★★★☆ (very dazzling feeling, the image is quite impressive)
sound effects ★★★☆☆ (general, not brilliant, not outdated)
