The Polish monastery was broken into by the Soviet Red Army, and the nun was raped by the soldiers and became pregnant. In order to preserve the reputation of the monastery and the nuns, they did not dare to seek help from the outside world, let alone report it to the authorities. Finally, someone mustered up the courage to secretly invite a French female doctor, and things took a turn for the better.
At the beginning of the film is the scene of the nuns singing hymns, and they also appear in the film many times in their devout prayers. They are a group of people who promise their bodies and minds to God. Naturally, they are asking for God's forgiveness and God's salvation. Perhaps "Is this all arranged by God?" They refuse the doctor's touch. In order to maintain the reputation of the monastery, the abbot killed two children, saying that "they were sent to the hands of God." The abbot did choose a path that was best for the nuns, but the real contradiction remained Cover it up, for the faith of the nuns has been shaken.
When a doctor faces a patient, her professional ethics requires her to treat her wholeheartedly. But after being almost raped by the Soviet army, the doctor's affection for the nun went beyond professional treatment. She understood the situation the nuns had suffered, and developed empathy. She bravely protected the nuns and won their trust. She could save the nuns from physical pain and save their lives, but still, she couldn't save their shaken faith. She confronts the nuns with their children, and confronts them with their motherhood, but such a situation is still unacceptable to the world.
Finally, the doctor had an idea and asked the monastery to take in orphans living on the streets, so that the children could be kept without suspicion. Later, the monastery became an orphanage and came alive.
God arranged all of this, some people fled, some resisted, some were overwhelmed, and some people used God’s arrangement to combine humanity and divinity to achieve true redemption. The nun said, "Faith is 24 hours of doubt and 1 minute of hope." Faith gives hope, but no solution. The real choice is still in the hands of human nature. What God has said, but how to understand and practice it is the power of human nature.
