Maybe no more movies like that

Probably only under the specific historical conditions at the time, such a soul-stirring epic film could be made. This grand scene, this meticulous scheduling, requires mature industrialization and a bit of dictatorship, which cannot be filmed in Hollywood today, nor can it be filmed in China today. I remember watching DreamWorks' "Prince of Egypt" (1998) with gusto, where the original main plot was adapted. Quite a solid dramatic conflict, with a strong flavor of classical drama: the battle for the throne at the beginning, then the battle for love, and then the battle for faith, concentrated and prominent, and progressed layer by layer with the development of the plot. It is also a classical method to shape characters in contradictions and to be comprehensive and three-dimensional. One is the queen of Egypt, whose change of heart towards Moses was clear and palpable. One is an overseer, who is mercenary at both sides. I have to admit that he is extremely smart in grasping the psychology of the public, and playing the foolish people with applause. These two characters are fantastic. Other supporting roles: Joshua and Shepherdess are also distinct. The scene is really rough. Especially the last great escape, there are panoramas and parts: old people die, new babies are born. The scepter turned into a snake, the blood stained the Nile, the separation of the Red Sea, and the fire engraving, except for the pillar of fire that blocked the Egyptian soldiers - it turned out that the Egyptian carriage was like this, and the special effects were sincere enough. When crossing the Red Sea, the water curtain flows on both sides, which is quite shocking. It turns out that after crossing the Red Sea, there are still people who have fallen. It is not incomprehensible to fall into madness after getting rid of slavery (the mainland will call it "liberation"). This passage shows the insidiousness of the overseer and the ignorance of the people. Later, when Moses came back with the covenant, it showed that they had no faith, and they would go with whoever had thick arms and could fool them. Having said that, I want to talk about "Exodus". There is nothing wrong with the pursuit of human rights and national independence, but if you don't comply with my request, you will do things and cause your family to be destroyed. Moses' methods are the same as today's terrorism. Feel sorry for Pharaoh for a minute.

The Ten Commandments quotes

  • [Opening line and sentences as movie started]

Narrator: And God said Let there be light, and there was light. And from this light, God created life upon earth. And man was given diminion over all things upon this earth and the power to choose betweem good and evil. But each sought to do his own will because he knew not the light of God's law. Man took dominion over man, the conquered were made to serve the conqueror, the weak were made to serve the strong, and freedom was gone from this world. So did the Egyptians cause the children of Israel to serve with rigor, and their lives were made bitter with hard bondage. And their cry came up unto God. And God heard them and cast into Egypt, into the lowly hut of Amram and Yochabel, the seed of a man upon whose mind and heart would be written God's law and God's commandments, one man alone against an empire.

Moses: You gave me this staff to rule over scorpions and serpents, but God made it a rod to rule over kings. Hear His word, Rameses, and obey.

Rameses: Obey? Moses, Moses. Are there no magicians in Egypt, that you have come back to make serpents out of sticks or cause rabbits to appear?
