The story takes place in the city of San Francisco in the 1930s and 1940s. Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) and Archer are a pair of detectives whose mission is to shuttle between the city Landlord handling the case. One day they received a sale, and a lady commissioned them to find her missing sister. After fully understanding the relevant information, they found that the lady's sister was said to be with a mysterious man named Seth. Originally they thought it was a very simple case of tracing people, but soon they found that things were far from being as simple as they thought. There is an astonishing network of behind-the-scenes and intricate facts about this case.

Archer was killed in the process of investigating the case, followed by Floyd Sears. Soon the police intervened, but the police's conclusion was shocking. They believed that Spade might have an affair with Archer's wife Ava and killed her partner. For a time, Spade not only failed to dig further. The truth of the case is difficult to protect itself. Spade is reluctant to give up, he is still working in secret to investigate the case, he goes to visit the lady and learns that her real name is Bridge (Mary Astor), who has been with Gutman and the gangster Wei Wei. Ermer and others have sold antiques. As they continued to deepen, Gutman asked Spade to ask them to get a priceless treasure - the "Malta Eagle" statue. And that's a very difficult situation for Spade, because for him to get the statue, someone has to take responsibility for Archer's murder in order to hand over the statue.

Incomparable brainstorming, a role that is more than all good and evil. Machine gun dialogue plus Bogart's hang.

The protagonist is also good and evil, and the dialogue is wonderful.

The Maltese Falcon quotes

  • Brigid O'Shaughnessy: Help me.

Sam Spade: You won't need much of anybody's help. You're good. Chiefly your eyes, I think, and that throb you get in your voice when you say things like 'Be generous, Mr. Spade.'

Brigid O'Shaughnessy: I deserve that. But the lie was in the way I said it, not at all in what I said. It's my own fault if you can't believe me now.

Sam Spade: Ah, now you are dangerous.

  • Brigid O'Shaughnessy: I do know he always went heavily armed, and that he never went to sleep without covering the floor around his bed with crumpled newspapers, so that nobody could come silently into his room.

Sam Spade: You picked a nice sort of a playmate.

Brigid O'Shaughnessy: Only that sort could have helped me, if he'd been loyal.
