living water, calamity

Why is the movie called "Water" (often translated as woe/moon river)? Is it raining because every beautiful love scene in the film? Or is it because of the origin of India and the river, the water has been entangled for several generations?
Water is always flowing, and water that is not flowing can cause many problems. Just like the stagnant water written by Mr. Wen Yiduo, "This is a ditch of desperate stagnant water, and the breeze can't make any ripples." In this film set in the late 1930s, many people have lived a rigorous life in accordance with religious teachings for more than two thousand years. The teachings are still followed to this day, which is why there are still millions of widows in India. I think traditions should not be so rigid, they should flow like living water.

The fate of the Indian widows of that era was tragic. Fortunately, there was Gandhi, but even now, they seem not far from the past. The love between Narayan and Kaliani is pure and tragic, and the widow cannot escape the bondage. But at the end of the film, it still gave us hope that Chu Ya could have a different life

Must be a man in the next life.

Water quotes

  • Kalyani: 'Learn to live like the lotus untouched by the filthy water it grows in.' Krishnaji said it in the Geeta

Narayana: Krishna was a god. Not everyone can live like the lotus flower.

    Kalyani: Yes, they can.

  • Shakuntala: Why are we widows sent here? There must be a reason for it.

Narayana: One less mouth to feed. Four saris saved, one bed, and a corner is saved in the family home. There is no other reason you are here. Disguised as religion, it's just about money.
