This youth film is more than bloody

Compared with many domestic youth films to illustrate a youthful era with a collective performance within a range, I prefer "youth films" that resonate by excavating extreme cases to project the awakening of youth.

And this movie is exactly that - "Eat Raw"

The so-called awakening must have been sealed inside for a long time, and then exposed through an opportunity. And most of these levels of awakening belong to deep desires, or darkness. The protagonist, Justin, is a vegetarian. This identity is not her own decision, but an identity given by her family. When she experienced various so-called traditional customs in veterinary school, such as splashing blood and eating rabbit kidneys, this was the key to unlocking the world of sensuality, breaking this established identity. Faced with the contradiction between two extreme identities, there is a multiple-choice question in front of us: release or restraint?

In the film, the director constantly uses contrast to reinforce the contradiction:

Using animals: A galloping horse is hooped all over to express Justin's inner world, which is gradually enlightened. The contradictions and struggles are full of symbols. Using People: The first rejection of identity came in the hands-on teaching of my sister, who even took off her own clothes on the main road. But in the anatomy class, he couldn't help staring at the aorta of his neck when he helped his roommate wear an apron. When performing the surgery, his proficiency was in stark contrast to Justin, who didn't dare to eat rabbit kidneys. Using color: Justin, who was splashed with blue paint, and a male classmate who was splashed with yellow paint were thrown into the room and told: they must turn green before they can come out. This is like a symbol of how two identities can be integrated? When the inner desires occupy the brain, when the uncontrollable release is released, they all hurt each other.

The director said she wanted to make a new female figure. She builds the image in a seemingly surreal form, but instead the effect is real and naked. This kind of portrayal of the deepest desire in the heart is so specific that people hide their faces.

There is a thought-provoking sentence on the American poster of this movie: WHAT ARE YOU HUNGRY FOR? In veterinary school, the bullying, the power, the authority, the masterful play of the seniors over the juniors is all lust. Other than that, are you eager to be recognized? Do you long for unrestrained release? Do you desire not to be alienated? You don't need to induce vomiting to lose weight, you don't need to be labeled GAY, and you don't need to contradict which is your real self.

What are you craving? This torture hits the heart.

At the end of the movie, the answer is given. My sister was put in prison and returned to a real society. This may also be an answer given by the director. If our dark side cannot be controlled by ourselves, then social laws will control it instead of us.

If there is a dark side that is an outlier, everyone is an outlier. And how to control yourself, as Justin's dad said: "I believe you will find a way to deal with it"
